Because there are no upgrades available yet.
You will have to wait for it.
Will those upgrades eventually exist or is it just wishful thinking?

How about now? I really want to up grade to the next one so I can get the soundtrack but I don't want to pay 50 something bucks (100 Ish CAD) for the soundtrack and bonus stuff...

Nope. Still we have no upgrades.
I was also interested in soundtrack but there is no way you can get it on GOG.
On Steam it's free DLC.
However you can get 26soundtrack bundle from itunes (9.99 USD) and amazon (8.99 USD).

I would also like to buy the game as the "Hero Edition" and upgrade to the "Royal Edition" if I like the game. Hopefully this will be possible some day - I can wait a few months more.
*BUMP*

White March II has been released and core game is up with 50% discount. I'd LOVE to upgrade my core game, but not gonna pay half of full price for it...
