So far Pillars of Eternity was a trying experience for me, not only because of Obsidian's shortcomings. They f-d up, it's simply obvious, however they are patching the game. For some reason, called by Obsidian "quality assurance performed by GOG", we suffer delays.

Why? Do you really think that 2 hours of downloading the game itself wasn't enough? I should be able to download it in ca 5 minutes but it took over 120. Now I need to wait for patches people on Steam have already been enjoying for quite some time. Most of my free time during Easter I had reserved for PoE was wasted because you artificially create delays for patches.

I dread to think what will happen when The Witcher 3 is released...

I'm just interested to know why you think the delay is artificial?

Because the game was not made by gog nor does it belong to them. The publisher's are the ones releasing the patches and hotfixes. What does gog have to check and why? Their only obligation is to provide our purchased games and updates to us. This isn't one of their old games that they themselves fixed to run on newer systems that they have to verify.
I don't get how some of you think this is acceptable.

GoG has to wrap it in their installer. Sorry if this is such an inconvenience to you that you might receive a patch DAYS after it was released elsewhere. I don't get where it became inexcusable to wait for things. The right now generation is pretty stupid overall to expect that they get what they want right now all the time.

You know, I answered your question already, in another thread. It's a direct reply to you so it's marked with a curved arrow so it is easy for you to find.

I guess I'm just a horrible person for being able to enjoy my life and not agonizing over these little details that don't ruin my day. It must REALLY suck to be you, never getting exactly what you want right this very second. Do you realize how stupid that post you made sounds. It's hilarious. "FOUR DAYS!!!!!111one" So? Go do something else, or what not. Or play the game. The bugs that were squashed aren't game breaking. So enjoy your product, or not. But really..? You're quibbling over a few days? Are you a cancer patient in your last week? Then relax and enjoy life for what it is.
You guys getting all bent out of shape about waiting a couple days for GOG to get patches/hotfixes out should just do yourselves a favor and buy your games on Steam. Seriously, if this kind of thing is causing you so much angst, just save yourselves the aggravation.

Four days late? You realize the 1.03 patch is out on GoG, right? You can download it from your library page...

Jewel is talking about the Hotfix for 1.03, which was released Friday as well. And there was actually a second Hotfix released today too, so GOG is actually a couple patch releases behind.

Original posted was talking about waiting for "that stupid hotfix" – which was released by Obsidian on Friday and still isn't on GOG ... on top of that 1.03 only hit for OS X today, and still nowhere to be seen for Linux.

And with regards to Steam, I think more than a few people _are_ going to switch to Steam after their experience with GOG. Unfortunately the decision has already been made to get PoE with GOG so there's nothing to be done there, short of paying $50+ again.
The problem isn't simply that it's 4 days late. It's that the patch was announced and released for other non-gog owners on the same day(hotfix the next day) but for us it takes 1-4+ extra days to receive our patch. You're right that it's not THAT big of a deal to wait... But the value of our purchase is that slight bit lower.

TL;DR you bought the game on gog. The negatives for buying on gog are rare including patch delays. If the positives such as DRM-free aren't worth the trade off for you, then maybe you shouldn't buy on gog. I personally still think it is WAY worth it.

I suspect once galaxy gets released we won't see this problem anymore.

GOG is generally a day or two late with patches, but I think many people are just not taking into consideration that it was the Easter long weekend. Whether people like it or not, it does have an effect on how fast patches/hotfixes are going to be implemented.

Galaxy will likely make an improvement on the speed of patch delivery, yes, but I have to wonder what the advantage is though. If people are avoiding Steam because they don't want to use a client for their games, I'm not sure I see how using a client (Galaxy) to get faster patches is a big advantage.

Well obviously someone who doesn't like clients won't use Galaxy. I'm not saying faster patches is THE reason or even a reason at all for someone who doesn't like clients to use Galaxy(though it could be). I'm just saying if the reason why Steam gets patches faster is because of the Client, Galaxy will likely have that ability too.

In theory, you will get the best of both worlds. Since they plan on having the option to choose between a client based install or the original executable install in Galaxy, I could see galaxy allowing devs to instantly patch the galaxy installation while gog works on turning said patch into a executable at the same time.

As for the reason why someone who doesn't like the steam client(because it's a client) may use Galaxy just know that Galaxy =\= Steam. Galaxy being a client doesn't mean it has all the same problems as the Steam client(of course DRM-free games will still be the norm). Take everything good about gog and put it into a client(it's self explanatory). Apparently there also will be new and unique features for Galaxy.
GoG receives a patch from Obsidian. Then, they have to wrap it into their own installer, and to test that on various setup (different OS version, 32-bits/64-bits, ...) to be sure it works fine for users.

And GoG staff, like everyone, don't work much on week-ends, especially on prolonged Eastern week-end.

Doing things well takes time. What in Earth can justify such impatience, such will to always rush things ? How does a few days delay matter ? People really should learn patience...
