Yeah, I'm keen to know this too, as I've just bought the game purely because of the announcement of turn-based.

Will that "feature" be optional?
I prefer real time battles, I'm not keen on idea manipulating equipment in inventory, changing weapons etc. while the enemy is standing still and blinking on me.
Besides in PoE2 mechanics are greatly improved and fights are really good (in PoE two handed weapons were way too slow, now they behave much more realistic).

Turn based combat will be optional, you will have a choice right when you start a new game. You can't change it in the middle of the game though, only at the start. This should be available on GOG, cause it's a part of newest patch that they plan to release.

New patch already live on gog and got this new turn based mode :)

If this gets more people into the game, then I'm all for it.

Personally I hhhhhhhhaaate Turn-Based CRPGS. I could never get into D:OS or ToEE or Arcanum or, sadly, the original Fallout games, because it just feels silly and clunky and plodding.

Since it's optional, that's fine! If it's optional in a hypothetical PoE 3 or Tyranny 2, that sounds great too!

I just hope they stick with their roots and go for primarily RTwP.

I really like the turn based--it isn't at all difficult--the RT mode is way too fast--can't even see what happens most of the time. I much prefer watching each party member on the attack and the defense!

In some ways I might even like it better than D: OS 2's turn-based mode!

I wonder if there are any chances of backporting this feature into the original PoE game, would love to play it with the turn based combat mode

I wouldn't count on it. From what I see the support for PoE1 is over. But it would be nice if they added it.
