I am all for DRM-free games, but the price difference for this game is just too big. A Steam key costs $20 in China (as I heard), $23 in Brazil (if you are committed enough to set up a VPN for Brazilian IP), and $30 in regular online key shops. So for $30 I have the game already downloaded.
This situation is no good. Does a game need to be 'old' to be worth buying from GOG?

Nope, there is only one, simple mistake: You didn´t back it! Backer prices were awesome:
25$ for one key
60$ for three keys

If you got a friend who is a backer that friend could still buy you a key BTW!
"Too expensive" ... i read this everywhere about almost every game. If it's too expensive for you, don't buy it! And the game is cheaper in china because people in china earn not half as much money as you probably do. Those are china's prices, not european, not american!

This will be a big game with many hours of game play. Of course it's not too expensive. Look at all the Call of Duties out there: They cost 50% more and the campaign is finished after 4 or 5 hours. Pillars of Eternity will have more than 10 times the length and it's still too expensive?? Come on, this is not a small indie game!
Pillars is a major release. Now ask yourself if you can get a good meal out for less money. A meal that will last, what, an hour or so? Come on, cheapskate!

If something is too expensive then don't buy it. Don't expect people to work for free in order to offer you cheap products.
First of, as others have said, people who backed it on KS [1] could get it for $20 and that was just the deal, that people who support it, can get it cheaper...

But more importantly, I think, we live in an age where 3 hour long DLCs cost 15-20 or even entire games that have 5 hours length cost their typical 40-50 price range... So how could a game, which offers up to 100 hours for one single playthrough, be too expensive? And this game is made to be played more than once, because it's so complex.
Other companies would cut such a game into 10 smaller games and sell each of the 10 pieces for the full price of one Pillars of Eternity copy.
I was glad when PoE was announced and they sold it for the normal price major releases typically have. There is so much content in this thing, that many other games seem like demo versions in comparison.

I think the whole point of this thread is not that the game is expensive per se, but that the GOG price is nowhere near competitive.
And it really is not, I can get a physical, boxed version with extras for less than the GOG download.
Does it need a post? Can't you think, judge, draw conclusions and take a course of action by yourself?

Nevertheless, I shall fix it:

If too expensive: Do not buy.

You are welcome.

Yeah this post seems useless...

Well, you are welcome to actually read the post you are replying to. Can't you read with understanding?
I wrote that already bought the game. The point is, I did not buy it from GOG. GOG price is 50% higher then in other online shops. I'd like to support GOG because I like what they stand for, but 50% higher price is a bit too steep for me.
Hey guys! Just bought Hero edition for price of 15.49 on GOG. Where have you found cheaper prices? Steam price is higher than 20, paradox plaza ... no comments, greenmangaming the same 49.99. So GOG has the best price I can found in online shops.

I understand what you are saying. I really get it. I guess the reason behind that is, that all kinds of other companies can generate Steam keys, while gog.com doesn't really trade their keys like that (remember the last humble bundle that had GOG keys? Always Steam!), as a result their is some competition that drives prices for Steam keys down, while GOG ones stay up.
There's nothing we can do.

I sense that some people here are a bit more dick-ish than they should be, considering that they probably backed it on Kickstarter, which means they themselves didn't have to pay the GOG price. :)

I read it. The same logic applies. If expensive, do not buy. Should I had added "here"? I thought it was obvious, my fault :)
And about the price, the official euro price is 42 € everywhere. In GMG you'll probably get a 20% off with the voucher, but it might be one of those selected tittles which do noy qualify.
You can find it for less price, but it is not its regular price, like when I got Hotline Miami 2 from Nuveem (Brazil price) for only 8 €. Didn't make a thread on the subforum complaining about GOG not releasing the game at the brazilian prize though.
Living is expensive. You deal with it or you don't.. Time to play!!
It's 41€ on steam's home page, as for those online key shops those are often sketchy businesses using shady tactics to sell games at lower prices than they should, we've heard all kinds of stories about stolen keys, mass humble bundle resellings, and in this case probably exploitation of the kickstarter backer offers.
