How do you remove companions from your party? I've looked all over but I can't figure it out. There must be an easy way that I am missing.

You can do it either at any tavern/inn, or at your stronghold. At the tavern, select any option from the bartender, and then go to the bottom left icon, party management. At your stronghold, press the 'H' key, and go to the same icon.
