Landerian: My favorite mod in the Bethesda games was always ones to slow down leveling. I don't like gaining a level each hour I play and really like having the time to see what each level is like and learn what's new and changed.

kmh12177: Mine, for the Elder Scrolls games, was the XP mod.

It changed the game from getting xp in certain skills by using them repeatedly, to that having no effect and instead getting xp only from completing quests, opening locks, etc - much like these older style crpg's. The level up screen was different too, you got a certain amount of points to spend and put wherever you wanted your pc to improve (again, like the older crpg's).

It also had the added effect of making leveling much slower.
Damnit, should have found this mod you speak of, it always irked me the level up system Oblivion had, which was awful cause otherwise the game was positively awesome.

Yeah, the XP system Bethesda uses is one that sounds great in theory (you'll get better at the things you do most), I've got lots of problems with it in practice. I don't worry about throwing endless fireballs at walls to get better at that because that's now how I play, but I do feel dumb running around everywhere to get better at jumping. Right after modding the compass to just show direction, I loaded up a 1.5 - double XP needed. I may try oout the XP mod if I decide to play it again.

Santiago: The way I see it, that's a decision you always have to make in a game like this. The game must be completable by people who don't play all the optional quests and yet people who complete everything shouldn't be so overpowered that nothing can threaten them anymore. Capping it like this is the best compromise two serve both these masters.
Totally agree, Od Nua and all companions' side quest are completely not necessary to complete the game (not for me, but that's just me), monsters/NPCs in the 3rd act are tailored for a party that isn't more than lvl12, to be honest they are pretty easy already.

The other point is, Pillars is what Baldur's Gate 1 was, the 1st chapter of a possible longer story, if they remove the lvl cap, or set it high, what should they put in the next game as adversaries/monsters? Gods?

Here's the link to it if you want to see how the level screens look using it, and read about it:

Oh yeah, this is the one for Oblivion. Pretty sure there is one for morrowind and skyrim as well.

hattori69: So i just entered heartsong and my full pt is lv12 (hard mode)....fkn lv caps always annoyed me...any news from devs about removing it or expand?...maybe smon modded it...couldn find it tough
I too find the level too low for all the xp I have left to earn before end game. :-s
Do want more level ups!

They'll probably add some more when they release the first expansion.

To anyone who wants the mod to increase the cap from 12 to 15 but can't find it, here's the link:

http://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity/mods/52/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fpillarsofeternity%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D52%26preview%3D&pUp=1

Make sure you read it to make sure you get the right one for your patched version of the game, and if you are using the IEMod or not. There are two versions of each of those 2 things, regular xp requirements and a version that increases the amount of xp you need to gain between each level (slower leveling).

And backup the file it over-writes just in case.

Also, it states that each level after 12 only benefits your characters offensive and defensive traits - there is no more choosing additional abilities or talents. Which is a good balance.
