Hello fellow Debian users, Ubuntu lovers and Mint freaks!

Here you’ll find scripts allowing you to build .deb packages from your MojoSetup installer (.sh) of Pillars of Eternity. You can install them through DPKG and remove them through any APT front-end (apt-get, aptitude, synaptic, etc.).

I just bought Pillars of Eternity on DVD, not of Steam. And I don't have these installer scripts at all. Where can I get them?

I didn’t write installers scripts for any version but the GOG one yet.

If you’re speaking about the backer DRM-free DVD, I should be able to write an installer script for it. But if it is the tied-to-Steam DVD sold to people who didn’t back Pillars of Eternity on Kickstarter, there is no way to write such a script for it because of the mandatory calls to Steam.

./play.it scripts are not, and will never be, compatible with any form of DRM.

Hello vv221, I purchased a usual DVD by Koch-Media. To be honest despite Im a Debian User I do not really need a deb-package, would be nice, but I can live with any kind of installer. Just the way I installed once Neverwinter Nights on my system. But I cannot find any kind of installer. On my DVD is only a Win32 installer, thought on the cover Linux is mentioned.

That DVD is some kind of trap actually: Linux is supported, true, but the DVD itself is useless for Linux users. It allows to install the game on Windows only, through Steam.
What you need to do is create a Steam account, register Pillars of Eternity on your Steam account via the serial number provided with your DVD, install Steam on your Debian, and then install the game through Steam.

If you don’t want to go through all this (I know I wouldn’t install Steam on any of my machines, even if I was paid to do it), you’ve got no real choice but to ask for a refund on the basis of the misleading "Linux supported" label on the DVD box.

Can I install Steam, install then Pillars of Eternity and uninstall Steam after that? And keep the Pillars.. installation? Or is the game installation bounded to the Steam installation?

You should be able to backup the game installed via Steam to play it without Steam afterwards. Steam is used here only as a delivery method.

It shouldn’t, your DVD should have come with some sort of serial you can register on Steam to redeem the game.
Sorry for not being more explicit, I don’t own this DVD myself.

Maybe you should give a try to the Obsidian forums. There your chances to get help from someone owning the same DVD are higher than here ;)

Almost forgotten, I just want to finish this with information how I solve this issue. In case that somebody else runs into it:
so its possible to install Pillars of Eternity with a key number from a DVD.
Start the Steam client application.
At the bottom left of the screen should be a button that says "ADD A GAME"
Click on that will bring up a pop-up where you can chosse: "Activate a product on Steam"
Click on that again and agree with the Steam subscriber agreement (only if you wish).
After that, you can put in the game key, that is printed on the DVD or DVD case. Then the game will start downloading and tied to your Steam account.
