I have a computer meeting minimum settings for POE (1). It played fairly well until I started issuing random and frequent system freezes. Complete freezes, with forced shutdown... not a picky one. ;-)

Tweaking graphic levels changes nothing. In some maps, it was persistent to some places, but finally was happening elsewhere too.

So, at this point, I am very disappointed. I'm not that far from the beginning of the game.

It first started in black meadows and hasn't stopped on next location and Caed Nua where I am currently.
I f at least I was able to reach a game log or something but I find nothing.
Any help appreciated. =)

I'm afraid I can't help you, but I will share a couple of thoughts.

In case of complete system freeze is highly probable that you are not getting any error in the game log, probably not even in the system one, however you could try taking a look at the latter.
Moreover, system freezes are mainly caused by hardware issues more than by software related ones. Maybe the game is overheating you GPU and this causes the system hang: this is just an hypothesis, but it might explain what is happening.

Dunno. Today switched to Xubuntu. I dislike computer interfaces eating your RAM for nothing. I am very pleased with it so far. Quite smooth.
But I ran into the bug right at the beginning of the game, something that did not happen previously.
Currently reinstalling POE1 only (again and I lost my saves so...) Maybe White March is the culprit. It seems freezes appeared since I installed it.
Ok, I found where logs are hidden. This is a video driver problem. I have been able to play a lot today until it freezes again suddenly, not even in an overloaded area. Very weird.

Well, I will try to continue going on.
And, I was wrong, it is not since Black Meadow freezes occured, but since the southern map, where you meet Durance.

I really enjoy the game and the lore! =)
And I never player Baldur gates and the like before. 8D

By default Ubuntu and its derivative distributions use the open source Nouveau driver for managing an NVIDIA graphic card, however a closed source NVIDIA driver exists and it generally provides better 3D acceleration and support, especially on newer models.
If your graphic card supports it, you may want to try installing the closed source driver: follow this guide.

I tried on Ubuntu 20.4.2+ but NVIDIA approved drivers were not working at all anymore. Satursday, I gave a try with this Xubuntu (which is normally built on the same core than Ubuntu, but the interface) and it worked. Problems are gone.
This is obvious you are pointing problem with Nouveau drivers, because NVIDIA drivers are well known to cause troubles too on Linux. 8D 8D
Whatever I can play! Hope it will be of some help to someone, someday.
