Whenever I try to patch the game, the patch_log.txt generated at the end comes up with "Error removing: C:\GOG Games\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity.exe", and the .exe duly remains the old one.

Everything else seems to update correctly, including the in-game version number, but obviously it means any .exe changes don't carry through, and new patches don't recognise that I have the correct version of the game to work on.
Having started with the base game, and then patched it to the latest version of 1.03 (getting the error along the way), the only way to get myself onto 1.04 was to do a total redownload and reinstall so that my base .exe was 1.03 and the 1.04 patch could be applied.
Even then, the 1.04 patch still threw me the same error, so I'm assuming I'm going to end up in exactly this same situation for the 1.05 patch, and I really don't want to be downloading 6 gigs and reinstalling each time a new patch comes out.

Running as administrator, UAC disabled, plenty of free disk space, installed in C:/GOG Games rather than Program Files.

Any help?

Did the patcher ever say it was complete (not in the log, but on your screen in the patcher display)?
The patcher gets its progress bar all the way to the end and then gives the message "Some errors occured, see patch_log.txt for details."

The patch_log says, in its entirety:

Pillars of Eternity patch log
Update from version 2.1.0.3 to 2.1.1.4

Error removing: C:\GOG Games\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity.exe

(WIth the previous patch, it had different version numbers, obviously, but same message).
Huh. At this point, if it was me, I would not trust the (partially updated?) installation that you have. And I would not trust that successfully patching it would give me something I should play. I would download the new installer and reinstall.

Sorry I can't tell you what went wrong. If I had to guess, it looks like access rights to something, or AV interference, or maybe even a botched download of the patch (which, I realize, is not supposed to happen).

If one had problem with the patch process then reinstalling the game is mandatory, however you already did it and the problem appeared again, is strange.

You can try to do it again, downloading the new installer version but be sure that everything in the game's folder is deleted.

By the way, do not disable UAC, is unwise to do it.
is there trouble updating using the patches? does it effect all three pillars versions?
you see i was thinking of maybe buying it at list price because the game looks very good, but
there seem to be too many problems and although i love playing a game i dont favor spending 99% of the time googling for solutions how to make a game work, at 12 bucks i might wait, but 42 bucks is a lot of cash
like i already replied in the topic: http://www.gog.com/forum/pillars_of_eternity/first_thoughts_on_poe_what_are_yours

Plus i have some other questions, is there lots of lightning effects (you know those as in xulima (xulima released a patch to disable weathereffect (that irritating white fullscreen flashing(photosensitivy here) in v1.7, which should come to GOG aswell, so far i saw nothing)

If a game is loaded with such effects it wont do me any good cause i be 'lying down on the floor' more then enyoying playing games(so a disable iiritatting effects should be an option in every game that uses such effects)
I already have to skip on fpp and 3d games, so a simple 2d game should have a simple disable button for people that cant bear these effects, so everyone can play the game (more sales)

You see the major reason i ask this is because of the big price tag... normally if a game is 8 or 9 bucks, i might take a gamble and buy it, cause maybe its not as bad as it is (videos wont help, i need to play the real game, playing games is much differnent experience then watching a walkthrough on youtube and cant be compared)
Since theres no demos anymore ( they are fraid the people wont buy the game) i cant judge games by video watching, i need a playble gamedemo to decide and see.

Back at the 3rd patch, Obsidian released a patch, found a bad problem with it, and released a "hotfix" patch a day or so later. Many people around here apparently never applied the hotfix patch (I think most did). GOGs patches always check that you are applying them to the right version. Without the hotfix 103 patch, the latest 104 patch refuses to apply.

I'd say it is not a problem. The patches are slowing down and I doubt that there will be more than another 3 or 4 scattered over the next year or so. In any case, the game is quite playable and fun in its current state.

I sort of know what you are talking about concerning lighting/motion effects. I get terrible headaches/eyeaches and dizziness. Can't play fps games at all any more (seems to get worse as I get older). Although, when you talk about being laid out on the floor it sounds more like a full-on seizure, which is something I've never had to deal with. I have not encountered anything like that in POE. Maybe in a cut scene? Dunno what you might think is a problem.

well my condition is not epi but it is quite close to it i guess since the medications are also given to people who have it, guess i am very close to it but lucky for me i dont roll around the floor.
Thing is however that when it happens i am so desorientaed that i might fall on the floor, but all in all they say you can live with it and become 90 or so, so in that case its not lethal.

Its mainly when the screen is fullscreen with lightning: xulima lightning in the act where you have to find the prince, that part is unplaayble for me so thats why i asked in steam to the devs if tehre are/were possibilities , and lucky for me people asked about disbale weathereffects.

Its quite some time ago, but i havent seen 1.7 on gog so far, and playing the steam version with that client is no option, cause i have steam only on xp, i;d rather not use steam at all.

So thats why i have been waiting patiently for the patch to arrive here, sofar nothinng heard.

So you have it aswell ? strange cause usually they alway say that females have it more and often then men should have, well i am a male, still i have it, then again they also say its heritable (family)
knock on wood, but the last few years it has gone down a small bit compared to decades ago, however, when aging i got myself some other nasty things, ah well i blame it on getting old i mean at my 20s i had it but i only had that, nothing else, nowadays i am tired aswell, i blame it on getting 50.... after that i goes down the drain very fast so i am already curious what i will feel like when i am 55 or even 60 :P
Anyways running to get the bus is not possible anymore compared to 32 years ago , when i was running every day to get the bus so i would not have to wait 30 minutes to get the next bus plus we had 15 tot 20 kg of books in our bags.... if i would try that today they can call 911 (or 112) to scrape me of the streets :P
To make things worse, the future is changing, in the 80s i had tons of fun despite of having many attacks and have to call in sick from school, nowadays the fun is gone and live has changed, the world has changed, in the 80s it was good now its getting worse especially with all the war news, just login a mailbox to print out the receipt you got when you just bought a nice game, every day its bad news on yahoo frontpage or any other outlook gmail page... war war war.......
