RyaReisender: Since when does Steam offer refunds if you don't like a game? Is that new?
Since the beginning of June or something like that? If you have played a game for less than 2 hours within 14 days, you will be refunded pretty much automatically by clicking a single button. If you have played more, you will be refunded within 14 days by going trough support when you run into technical issues. It is not considered abuse to ask for a refund for a game you bought for full price, it went on sale, and then rebuy it for the sale price. Most of these rules seem to be flexible in favour of customer - if you run into technical issues, you can actually write support after a period longer than 14 days and while the refund isn't automatic then, they might give it you anyway.

Though don't forget, the refund is to the Steam's wallet, not your credit card.

Depends on your credit card. You can also get it paypal - altho it apparently varies between countries.

Wow, that is new then. I must admit the Steam's refund are very solid.
Apparently it has somehow escaped the attention of the folks here in this thread, but GOG has just implemented a *new* refund policy--" If we can't get a game to work for you during your first 30 days of ownership, we'll refund the full purchase price! "

It's not a "satisfaction guaranteed" refund or anything like that, of course (because GOG can't know what you like and what you don't and whether or not you've done due diligence in researching what a game is all about before you buy it--that's the customer's responsibility.) But they'll let you try to play with it for 30 days and if you and they working together can't solve the technical issues and get the game to run on your hardware you'll get your money back. I think that is as fair a policy as could be asked for.

It's mentioned right there in my first reply ;-) It's just completely unrelated to OP.

At any rate, they will have to implement something like Steam's policy sonner or later.

Yeah, they did a bit of a 180 on the entire issue. Then again, I believe the EU legislation has a lot to with this decision.

That refunding system isn't really "new". At least as long as I'm here GoG always refunded when you couldn't get your game to work and they were unable to help you.

It's just as I said earlier, the people who complain about not getting refunded, usually didn't even bother to try out the solutions GoG proposed. And that problem hasn't changed.

Just to put the discussion in context: the original question was if GOG would offer a refund for a game that you bought because you don't like it, not because it doesn't work. Apparently, Steam has the option.

Doppelganger: Good luck on that one. GOG - SUCKS on refunds altogether, even if it is a legitimate reason. I had a game I couldn't even play due to funked up controls that would not work properly on a modern joypad. All I got from GOG support is an email with a link for some crap software mapper to try. When I insisted on a refund because the game was virtually unplayable, they said "We don't give refunds because your controller doesn't work". It wasn't me, it was the game! I use the controller for everything else, problem free.

Moral of this story? Know what you're buying 100% before you buy it from GOG because after the sale, they could give two sh!ts about you.

micktiegs_8: Really? Back when I bought Strike Suit Zero and I couldn't play it support troubleshot with me and the next day gave me a refund.
Why would GOG give you a refund for peripheral issues? They give refunds for absolute technical issues with the games. The controller is not the game, nor did it come with the game from a GOG bundle or something.
Why should they? Because if the peripheral isn't the problem, the game is causing the problem. The controller works fine. I use it with 23093479032 other games. The game does not properly detect/map the buttons, so it is not properly functional. It doesn't matter though, I've moved on and don't give a s about that game anymore. I'm just going to be more cautious about what retro games I purchase from this site in the future.

From what I'm reading, it sounds like GOG has implemented a new refund policy. This is good because they definitely needed a proper one.
