This is the only extra feature of the Champion Edition that appeals to me. How useful is the map? Is it in-game?

Is not in-game. Is a very detailed map of the country where the game take places. There are locations found in the lore but not in game.

I don't know if it's the same map as the Champion Edition, but you can find a detailed world (not game) map at game-maps.com.

Couldn't fine anything about Pillars on that site.

As for the question, I don't have that version myself, but I can't imagine it's worth the extra money, especially if that is all you are interested in.
