OP has a point though. Something about the way Galaxy handles PD isn't quite right. To get the 1.03 update I had to use the verify/repair option too.
Also in the game details in Galaxy it says "unknown game version" where it normally says "installed".

Here's a pro tip:
Don't use Galaxy and the offline installers for the base game/patches instead.

For me, the translation of this advice: go back to mostly Steam for purchases. I'm pretty happy with Steam, just thought maybe GOG would be good to support. Oh, also I saw some streamers I follow get something out of purchases on their GOG store which seemed cool.

But for me, personally, it's only viable if the Galaxy app spefically is properly functional...like my Steam app is properly functional. If it's not ready, or never will be, for prime time there is a viable alternative. No interest, personally, in offline installers or whatever; probably just me, that's ok.

I have to agree with you here. Galaxy has never and will probably never function like it should.
I mean look how long Galaxy is on the market and is still the worst app to handle games.
I rather take DRM games from steam then use this worthless piece of code called Galaxy.

Well that explains why I didn't have those issues - I installed the "generic" Galaxy after I already had PD, and pointed it to the directory.

Seems like Galaxy still has issues (or, has more issues now than it had a while back).

At least you can grab offline installers as well, which makes it way better than Steam (where you cannot do this).

If you don't want to uninstall Galaxy you can also delete the "C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage" folder, which will reset the library. Then use the "Scan and Import Folders" option in Galaxy to rebuild the library.

Galaxy is full of bugs since release.

I can handle the silly way updates have been working, but it gets confusing when the game reports the incorrect version.

I think too much time has been spent fixing and re-balancing the game when a better use of time would be to add mod support and fix large issues. Why this way? Because then modders will generously do most of your work fixing and re-balancing for you, adding new and old features that can be turned on or off as the user wishes.
A re-balance should've been finalised prior to release, not within the first few weeks after release. Why is this? So people know the game they bought stays the game they bought, not a re-imagined and re-balanced game that they no-longer enjoy. Sound familiar?

So, anyway. How do you tell what version of the game you are running when Galaxy and the game show 1.0.1?
This should be basic in any launcher, and more importantly, the game.
When I do a patch it is nice to know that the patch has successfully been applied.
