Hey Avatar
It seems to be the Dos version as the installer has a DOSBox prompt.

Hey - how goes it?
That kind of sucks about the version. Though I don't personally have any comparison shots of the quality. I'm also tempted to play this version as I don't need to CD swap (I'm a lazy lazy man....)

Going good man.
I definatly like the no CD swapping aspect as well. And yeah I've seen comparisons of the video quality as well to bad about the video quality loss. But the dos version is defniatly the version that would cause less compatibility bugs since GOG can just use DOSBox to make it work.
Also I love the fact I finally get the chance to play many of the Sierra releases I don't own. Now that Activision owns the rights to the games and has chosen to be partners with GOG I can buy them here and download them easily, and not have to hunt down copies on sites like Amazon or Ebay and other sites like those. And then have the hazzle of making the games work myself.

It is the DOS version, but if you have the discs, my Phant 2 installer does a full hard drive install of the game. http://www.sierrahelp.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1034
DOSBox is not quite as as necessary, as the Windows executable is 32-bit. there is an XP/Vista/7 compatible installer, but it modifies the the executable so it no longer uses the resource.cfg. This means that if you concatenate the CDs, the game will still look for the CDs.

Actually, both versions (Windows and MS-DOS) have the same video quality: the DOS port, however, has interlaced video and can only display up to 256 colors, so it seems inferior.
The Windows release of Phantasmagoria 2 will only work correctly on PCs running Windows 95, 98, or ME. Windows 2000 and later have issues pertaining to the way engine functions are called, so it will always crash. I assume this is the reason why GOG went with the DOS port. It's still nice to play without disc-swapping, however.

I don't know if it is the second time but I'm repping you. Your installers have worked wonders for my KQ collection.

Tell me about it. Anyone used to play The Spacebar, by Steve Meretzky? That adventure game is still awesome, but I hated the disc swapping between dream sequences and the bar. I thought that was a downer until I saw a FMV retrospective done by Spoony, wow some of you guys had it worse.
That reminds me, someone at GOG must have played at least one Steve Meretzky game, right?

Why we have the Dos version ? Actually, there is a patch for the windows version, and it work very well with it, and the quality is a WAY better!

Probably because the DOS version needs the least maintainence?

That is the StC installer. Why not link to the jafa's (the author) page instead of an unknown source?
