Looking for a detailed guide. The manual is sorta vague. I'm in the start; I sort of think I'm still in the tutorial? Hard to tell. Everything about the game is extremely WEIRD.

I think the problem I'm having is that TERMS are not DEFINED. I'm sitting here, doing things, but I'm saying to myself "What is going on? What's happening? What is Supposed to be happening? Am I making progress, or not?"

If the measure of success is that energy bar, this game is impossible, just a torture device of heinous frustration. Look--- I'm on EASY setting, make it EASY so I can learn.

"Use your energy network to capture two energy collectors"

Okay. WHAT defines "capture" and how do you accomplish this task? This was not shown in the tutorial, and is not showing up in the manual.
Also:

All the units are too tiny and look too much alike. How can you assign colors or new shapes or enlarge them so you have some clue where specific types of unit are located?
The soldiers are microscopic specs, impossible to manage.

Where is the slider for speed? Fifty percent is sorta okay, but I want total control over game speed. Where is the slider?

For someone so vocal about the short commings of each and every game manual out there you suck at conveying precise and detailed information yourself. Since you've negleted to indicate which mission those objectives refer to i'm going to go ahead and assume it's the mission Pyramida.

Capturing mechanics are most definitely covered in the manual. Here,

"CAPTURING ENERGY CORES
If you can cause a break in your enemy’s energy network, any of their Cores that become disconnected can be co-opted into your own power grid. Provided you have a working Energy Core close enough, any disconnected enemy Cores will be integrated into your system. Using your Perimeter Field, you can also force a break in an enemy’s network. If you have expanded your base close enough for your Perimeter Field to encompass one or more enemy Cores, any Cores (or buildings) inside your Perimeter will be cut off and linked into your network."

Basically you have to expand your energy network using energy cores (and energy transmitters) and connect your energy network to whatever it is you're trying to capture. If what you are trying to capture is not connected to the enemy's network, which is the case in Pyramida's scenario, then it's just a matter of expanding and getting there (and by getting there i mean expandind your network so that you can place an energy core next to the structure you're trying to capture). If what you're trying to capture is connected to the enemy's network then you'll have to cause a break in to disconnect the structure(s) in question from the enemy's network (or force your own Perimeter field on the enemy's network).

So, in regards to this specific mission, Pyramida, use energy transmitters (you can expand your network faster with them than with energy cores since they cover longer distances) to connect your power grid to 2 energy collectors (the big round things that increase the maximum ammount of energy that your network can have in storage). Notice though that transmitters unlike cores have no shields of their own so they're vulnerable break in points on your network. If required, say if if you need to place a transmitter someplace where you're constantly under attack from the scourge, put a core right next to the transmitter so that the core's shield can protect both core and transmitter (you have to manually turn on/off the shields of each core). Later on you'll have to mix this with units and laser/rocket towers to defend vulnerable spots, but on this mission core shields protecting a few of the transmitters and 20 or 30 soldiers to slowdown the scourge is more than enough.

Also, once you start moving up the map move your builmasters, you'll build faster if the buildmasters don't have to send building materials half way across the map. Building materials can be destroyed before reaching the building site, so that's another reason to keep your buildmasters as close as possible to the building site(s) while trying to keep them relatively safe at the same time. Another thing, try to evaluate what is it you need most for a particular scenario, fast terraforming (for building space or to quickly install your frame) or fast buiding (which is what you need in this scenario), and adjust your ratio of brigadiers/builmasters accordingly. And yet another thing, i'm under the impression that transmitters are only used to expand the network but they can't be used for capturing purposes, you'll need a core for that, although it's been a while since i've played Perimeter and i'm not entirely sure about this one.

The measure of sucess is if wether or not you can accomplish the mission objectives. Sometimes is charging a frame and leaving trough a portal, sometimes is powering an unpowered portal, sometimes it's destroying an enemy frame, sometimes capturing an enemy frame, whatever, read the mission objectives and that's what you have to do to move on.

The units are small but you can zoom in on the field (and units). In any case, squad management is best done from the squad palette. A double click on a squad portrait will center the view on the respective squad. The nanomorph palette provides you with all the necessary info on morphing options available and it even tells you what you're missing to acess other morphing options, so in terms of squad management that's basically all there is to it.

I'm not aware on any in depth guides. There's one here with a few screenshots but i doubt that's what you're looking for.

Edit: Typos, lots of them.

Since they're being PAID to do the job well, I expect a game manual to
be coherent and complete. Might be nice if it were succinct as well.
For example, that load of over-written and vague horse manure could have
been simply expressed as:

Capture an opponent's cores or other buildings by cutting their string of cores:
1. Build a core of your own next to the target, so that your core's area of effect overlaps the item you're trying to capture.
2. Turn on the Perimeter Shield.

By contrast, I'm not being PAID to compose this posting. If you had PAID me to compose a query / complaint here, you'd have a valid criticism that I was not "precise and detailed" enough for you. But you did not BUY this text from me, as I BOUGHT the game------ so your argument is utterly fallacious, like all such grammar-school-level comparisons.

You're also wrong about which scenario is in question. The scenario I'm stuck on is number 8, "Krugh". I've Googled many strategy solutions, none of which work. I now simply want a cheat to bypass this scenario.

Thanks, but that might as well be written in Japanese.

"Create a new directory" assumes:

#1. You know what a "directory" is;
#2. You know how to "create" a "new" one.

Like all computer stuff, too much is always assumed when instructions are given.
Too many terms, too much jargon, too much buried in menus and folders and sub sub sub sub sub hidden places....all to hard to find, all too hard to manage.

yeah, I can go google for 90 minutes, and read for six hours, and eventually decipher that stuff. But I don't want to know how to run a computer. I want to know how to play a game, a game that should not have been BROKEN like this in the first place.

A directory is a folder (at the end of a specific path).

'Create a new directory' is the same as 'Create a new folder'

So, go to

C:\ProgramFiles\Gog.com\Perimeter\resource\Saves

and there create a new folder called Profile0

Thank you.

Predictably, the "cheat" here did not work, probably because the instructions for creating and installing it are mostly gibberish to me.

*****

Create a new directory with "Profile0" name in your "c:\Program Files\Codemasters\Perimeter\
Resource\Saves\" directory.

Create a new file with text editor, called as "data" (without extension!) in
your "Profile0" directory. Just copy and paste the following lines into your "data" file:

[General]
name=ABBYCHEAT
lastMissionNumber=28
difficulty=1

Save your file. Now you have access to all missions in campaign/battle mode.

*****

I substituted the word "Folder" for "Directory". I have no clue what a "text editor" is, so I used Notepad, saving as "data" with no extention on the file name.

As expected, it does not work.
"Campaign" shows only "Tutorial" and "Easter".
"Load Game" shows nothing
"Battle" shows only the same nine scenarios that have always been standard, and these are all presumably one-shot battles that do NOT connect to the next battle in the campaign sequence.

I just tried the cheat and it does work.

Assuming you created the Profile0 folder inside the

...\Gog.com\Perimeter\Resource\Saves

folder, and that you saved the data file you created inside the Profile0 folder, two things could be happening:

1- The data file was saved as data.txt. If that's the case, right click on it, choose 'Rename' and delete the extension so that you end up with a file named data with no extension

2- After you place the data file in the Profile0 folder you have to start the game, quit and then start the game again. When you start up the game the second time you'll see a profile named ABBYCHEAT in the game's profile selection window and under that profile all levels are unlocked.

A text editor is a program that allows you to edit or create text files, so notepad, wordpad, etc.

Thank you. The cheat does NOT work.

In case I did not mention it before, I had attempted to alter the numbers of the scenarios. That not only did not work, it made the game unplayable. I deleted the game, and downloaded it again from Gog----so all my savegames are lost. I now have two folders: "Profile0" and "Profile1". Is that incorrect?

I've followed your directions, starting, closing and restarting the game. The results are the same. Only a very limited number of scenarios appear under "Battles", just as before. Nothing but "Easter" and "Tutorial" show up under Campaign, and Load Game is an empty list.

I never allow Gog games to install on the C drive, it's already too crowded.

My path is

E:\Games, Computer\Perimeter\Resources\Saves\Profile0

The type of file is Text Document. Opens with Notepad.
The name is just plain "data"

The exact contents are of the file are as follows:

[General]
name=ABBYCHEAT
lastMissionNumber=28
difficulty=1
The cheat does work, i wouldn't' claim otherwise without checking it myself. I did check, it does work.

If the type of the file is text file that's probably your problem right there. If you have your computer set to hide extensions for known type files you won't see an extension but the file has one nevertheless. You can go into folder options and under the tab 'View' see if the checkbox for 'Hide extensions for known file types' is ticked. If it is, untick it, and then recheck the data file. If it has a .txt extension delete the extension.

The levels are all unlocked but only with the ABBYCHEAT profile, so you have to select that profile first and it's only after that that you select 'campaign'

I have other profile folders as well, so i don't think that's an issue, provided that the Profile0 folder doesn't have any other files besides the data file.

Thanks you for your advice. What I meant to say is that the cheat does not work for me. I have no doubt that it's working for you.

I was able to get in and set file extentions so that they are always visible.

Since the information was created in a text editor (notepad) I don't see how it could be saved as anything other than a text document. That said, I did click on the dropdown menu, and attempted to save it to Profile0 as "All Files".

After doing so, I have a file that has this name information on it:

DATA
Text Document
1 KB

Right Clicking on it, going to Properties, it lists as a Text file. No extention is showing.

I launched the game, and once again, exactly the same results.

There is nothing called an "ABBYCHEAT" profile anywhere. There is not any complete list of Battles. Same as before, not working.
What you do is, you create the file in Notepad and you save it as "data.txt." Then you right click on the file, you choose rename and you delete the ".txt" bit from the name. Windows will probably warn you about changing file extensions at this point, don't worry about that, go ahead and confirm that you want to change the file name to just "data"

After that if you right click the file and choose properties, what you should see is,

----------
data
----------
Kind of File: File
Description: data

Thank you. That was confusing and frustrating, but after lots of tries, it appears to have worked. I've got the ABBYCHEAT. I only hope that others stuck on KRUGH will see this thread and benefit. Thank you.
You're welcome, good luck with the missions after Krugh.

It would be funny if it were not so tragic: I can't beat the next scenario, either!
Well, I'll try a few others. There's only one walkthrough I could find, and it's not very detailed. Thank you again for the advice.
