Charon121: Yeah, it's a bit confusing. Even more so in stores, because the value of items is expressed in money. If you sell the shop owner more valuable items than you buy from him, you'll get the difference in money. If vice versa, you'll have to pay for the difference in value. Also bear in mind that certain people will accept only certain items. Drunks accept only water, girls like jewellery and needles, tough boys want razors and pocket watches...

It's absolutely imperative that you go dumpster diving as often as you can and pick up as many bottles as you can find, and then fill them with water. Pharmacies are too expensive, so you'll have to rely on bandages from drunks for healing.
Thanks for the help. I didn't understand why I couldn't buy something in a store, and I apparently didn't have the right items. Thanks too for all the tips. I needed them. I started the game over and am doing better.
Another question: It shows I'm exhausted. What do I do ? I tried to sleep in the Shelter, but that didn't happen. And I don't have coffee beans. What am I missing ?

Exhaustion is cured by sleeping. You have to sleep for at least several hours for any significant effects. For a more efficient sleep, take an inexpensive painkiller/sleeping drug just before going to bed, that will reduce the exhaustion bar much faster. You can buy coffee in Stamatin's pub near the river, but it reduces health, so it should only be used when you really can't lose any time sleeping.

How long did you sleep for? Sleeping should help. As far as I know, the only incurable case of exhaustion is in the Haruspicus' playthough near the end, where it's scripted until you complete the quest of the day.

Hi Charon...I haven't slept at all and the bar on the top of the screen is at its end. I've been to beds, used different keys on my keyboard but nothing happens. Is there a specific key I use to lay down to sleep ? How do I sleep ?
Ah, yes. When you click on a bed with the use key, you can select how many hours (1-8) you wish to sleep for by pressing the "+" button or moving the slider, I can't remember the details... Select the number of hours and then confirm, and you'll see the digital clock going fast forward, while the exhaustion bar will reduce.

Oh my gosh...I missed the "+" key. I've looked at every w/t out there and none mentioned how to get "sleep". I'm sending XOXO's for you. You've been such a great help. Thank you. Phew...*deep sigh*
No problem. :) As long as you enjoy this hidden gem. My sleeping strategy in this game is this: I go to bed in the evening after I do all the quests from that day, then sleep to 5 or 6 a.m. (with drugs I only need to sleep for a few hours), then obtain the map and visit the Theatre before 7 a.m. (you can watch a new cutscene there every morning). When the clock strikes 7, I'm ready and well-rested for the new batch of quests.

This is a huge help and I made notes. Excellent schedule, gives me a plan, rather than wandering around wondering what to do when. Thanks bunches. Sure do appreciate it.
I'm also playing Metro 2033, Amnesia and Penumbra.
So killing that midget that kid had me kill at the beginning was bad?

You get something from that quest either way... There's no really good or bad here.
