Why did I buy the DLC? This game has to be the game I have tried to play, then given up, the most with. I have 175 hours in game. Pretty sure I haven't even gotten halfway through the game. 90% of my time has not been enjoyable. I start, my character sucks, push through it. Character becomes good! Enjoying it for an hour, get stuck, die, die again, and again. Get angry, uninstall. Play Crusader Kings, get bored, reinstall Pathfinder. I start, my character sucks, push through it. Post on forums. Go to sleep.
Could you be a little more specific with what your problems are? Where are you in the game (in the game's physical location or story) when you start having issues? Do you have problems with kingdom management? What's your party composition like?

Well I was mostly just musing on my relationship with the game. I've used a bunch of InEffect's builds. I think it comes down to me not really enjoying the story more than anything. Even when I've switched to storymode just to get through it, I find that there is no real pay off. I'm sure there is an overall story, but it feels like victories that should feel special just end with "Well good job! something terrible has happened! time to forget about that storyline and move on to another."

I tend to like smaller scope stories, so you can actually connect to the story. Even though I haven't enjoyed Pathfinder, I dont regret buying it, or the DLC... for full price... okay maybe i regret it a little bit... but I want Owlcat to keep making games so I'm cool with buying the game.... maybe i'll enjoy it after another 100 hours...

I don't understand. If you don't like the game that much, why not move on to something else? I'm not in to roguelikes, so I don't play them. We all like different things. Apologies if my reply was incoherent, I've been sleep deprived for the past 2 days.

So, you say your lack of enjoyment comes down to you not enjoying the story, and then you switched to story mode...? Isn't the whole point of story mode allowing the player to focus on the story without worrying about the other aspects of the game? Why would you play that mode if you don't enjoy the story? Wouldn't it be better to try to focus on another aspect of the game so the story's shortcomings wouldn't be as obvious?

For example -- I think the combat and character / party building in this game is extremely satisfying, and I also really like the exploration, the resting system and the resource / weight management. Because of this, the main story-line being just "serviceable" so far (I haven't finished the game yet, mind you) doesn't bother me one bit, as it's not really my main focus anyway.

I don't know what you usually look for in games like this, but there is a lot more to be challenged by and enjoy than just the story.
