DProject: Also, you might get a mysterious envelope with....some money in it. What happens later if you accept it though (the other option is to burn it) - I don't know and don't wanna know until I've finished the game at least once. I've got very strong suspicions though, but maybe it's just me - maybe the organization behind it is completely cool.
Didn't burn it on my first playthrough, got off the hook though *phew* Allying with them made me quite nervous, not knowing what'll happen next... I'll try to be a good fascist pig in my next one. One depressing ending t'was. D:carmen510

In the first few days, before you get the bonus for detaining, you don't even need to point out discrepancies. Just deny them outright to save time and you can save up a bunch of money that should last you for a bit. I think I managed to process 18 people the first day and 20 people the second day.

DProject: OP's probably past this point already, but if anyone else is wondering the same question...
At one point in the game you begin to gain money from detains too. Albeit very slowly, but still.

If you accept the money, govt. will confiscate it next day, because your neighbours ratted you out. There will be upcoming arrest on you, adn you will have to help EZIC agent, then they will help you not get arrested.
If you don't help the agent, your game is over.

One thing I noticed, and it's a very small tip, but saves some time:
When you get the calling cards to hand out to engineers: After that every engineer, that comes to your booth, is good to go right away. Just stamp it green without even looking at the rest of the documents and make sure to hand the calling card too.
Another timesaver: The person who recognizes you, and says you were a brat, is also always clean. Just stamp away and let her pass.
These little things add up. I'm currently at ~300 credits (past the point where my son had a birthday). Granted, I haven't upgraded the apartment because in my last playthrough I saw it did not improve the family's well-being at all. The rent is higher, but that's the only difference.
