I am running a netbook with Windows 7. I am getting the following message after installation.
"The program can't start because d3dx9_42.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Tried reinstalling - no joy. Any ideas?

It looks like your missing some directx9 files download and install this
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d
It will update your computer with directx9.0c and previous directx files alongside the directx10 or 11 your running.

I am also running Windows XP SP3 and the panzer2.exe fails to launch the game. All other games purchased at GOG run, only Panzer2 cann't even launch. Seeking refund.

300+ days later game solved solution still did not yield a functional game. There are no refunds. There never was a patch. I stayed away from this site for almost a year, not recommending it. Today I venture back and had downloading problems with gog downloader for Witcher and King's Bounty: The Legend. Browser downloads worked in the past for other games but GOG downloader did not due to corrupted files.

Now I have 2 no shows and a disfunctional Panzer 2 game - shame on me this time for coming back!

I have windows vista and I also am told that panzer2.exe encountered a problem and must close....I tried some different troubleshooting based on the support articles but have had no luck. Any one solve thier problem?
I recently posted that I was having the same problem with panzer2.exe. I didn't know what the problem was, just that I had to close the program. I saw some people changed the DDRAW.dll file so I figured I'd give it a shot. I changed it to anything.dll and now it works great!! I know I have a vista and you have an XP so I don't know if it'll work but its worth a shot

Hi willdouglas,

Please follow these steps:
d3dx9_42.dll
This is because you are missing a file.
Step 1. You can download http://www.d3dx9.net/download-missing-d3dx9_42-dll/ here.
Step 2. Paste this file into your system32 and system folder. Also put it in your syswow
Step 3. Navigate to your System32(32Bit OS) or SyWOW64(64Bit OS) Folder.
Note: The location of System32 or SyWOW64 is
C:Windows\System32 (If you are using 32Bit Windows)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (if you are using 64Bit Windows)
Step 4.Paste the d3dx9_42.dll into this folder.
Step 5.Run the game. It might work now.

Works for windows XP- like a charm, thank you.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium on one computer and Windows 7 Professional on the other. Both download PG2, files all check out, etc. But on 7 Professional, the game runs perfectly. On Home Premium, I keep getting a message that PanzerGeneral.exe has stopped working. I've tried redownloading by both GOG downloader and browser. I've even tried transferring from the machine with 7 Professional through the home network. But it still won't run. Any ideas? I've tried changing compatability, turning off NortonAV, etc. But can't get it to run on that one machine.

Any ideas?

Bob
