while I don't have the game myself there are a few things you could try out.
I'm taking it you are running either Windows Vista or Windows 7?

Where have you installed the game?
If you have installed the game in either 'Program Files' or 'Program Files (x86)' there is a possiblity
that the game just won't work. This is because Windows puts several restrictions on both of these directories.

Solution, install (every) game outside the Program Files folder, e.g. C:\Games.

Other things you could try out are:
Right click the shortcut / startup .exe and under the Compatibility tab disable visual themes, desktop compositions etc.
Try every combination.

Ok so i don't have the game but here are some solutions others have posted that might fix your problem as seen in this thread panzer_general_2_vs_windows_7_64_bit_home_premium

rename the ddraw.dll

right-click the short cut on the desktop, select "Properties" from the pop-up menu (at the bottom), then select the "Compatibility" tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" checkbox, and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". Then check all 5 option just below that under "Settings" (256 colors, 640x480, and 3 times disable.)

starting the game using PG2UK220.exe instead of the normal PG2.exe

Deleting the SMACK folder resolved the problem of the stuck mouse. Running it in Windows 95 compatibility with the first four boxes checked



Because of different hardware/software configurations sometimes you'll run into problems not everyone has but i hope this helps

This is an error generated by your own personal computer setup. Every game GoG releases is extensively tested on several machines and setups at GoG HQ, however they cannot, like every single company in the world that produces games, cater for EVERY single possible hardware setup, or indeed every configuration users use.

I've seen you complaining irately on the general forum as well as here, and frankly I'm disgusted by YOUR conduct, not GoG. It's the weekend, you're in a timezone up to 12 hours ahead of the GoG offices, you've not waited even a single WORKING DAY, you've waited no time at all, you've expected instant reply of some billion dollar company with 24/7 support, by a relatively small company who painstakingly spend all their time bringing us RETRO games that were NEVER MEANT for platforms like Vista and Win7.

I suggest in future that you:

A) Learn about computers and their limitations and how compatibility between platforms and software/hardware loadouts affect gaming both with new releases and retro releases.

B) Learn some patience. Many companies support departments have a general aim to get back to people within 7-10 WORKING DAYS. This means Monday to friday, 9am-5pm, not including holidays. So when you shoot off a support mail, try to keep in mind that the world does NOT revolve around you and your timeline.

C) Use the tools available. You want a fully working RETRO game on a brand new platform? Refer to point A and remember that there will be teething troubles. And whilst you're at it, use things like the GoG game specific forums. But don't just rant and rave and give no details, start to think beyond "Boo hoo my game don't work so I must nerd rage at the world because my problems supercede everything else" and simply explain the problem, what hardware you running? what software? Do you have UAC on? Are you an administrator? and so on and so forth... THINK about things, the more info you can give when describing your problem, the more chance someone can help you, it doesn't usually take much work, a file edit here, and properties change there to get working the things that by rights were never designed with the future in mind or the technology more than a year ahead of release.

So remember, GoG are bringing you one hell of a service as it is, but they cannot do everything, retro gaming like this requires patience and knowledge, and an understanding that while someone will do all they can (GoG) sometimes it needs a little extra help at the end (other users) to get things working in that sweet spot.

No matter where you buy a PC game, and more than likely every PC game you buy anywhere, will need patching, its not gog's fault.

I got a game yesterday on gamersgate that was, according to GG, patched fully up to date, this was not the case, in fact there was a hugely significant patch needed before I could play it, I dont blame Gamersgate for this, its a fact of life with PC games.

This post helped me get PG2 working--THANKS! and thanks to GOG for retroing the games

Wow, after months searching the Internet trying to make Panzer General 2 work under wine in Linux, the solution was right inside Gog.com forum related to Windows 7. this solved my problem, thank you!

Next time, I'll check on Windows 7 solutions to see if my other problems (Blitzkrieg 2) can also be solved in Linux wine.

My comp is running Win 7 Home Premium

I have the same problem "panzer2.exe stopped working" and PG2UK220.exe stopped working.

I went into properties and changed compatibility to windows xp service pack 3 check off all five boxes

renaming dll file caused a message "direct draw fail to int"

Nothing seems to work, please help anyone
