Has anyone had PE multiplayer working, LAN only, on XP SP3 systems?

I've forwarded ports 47624 and 2300-2400 on my router and even tried with
Windows firewall disabled on both systems.

Neither TCPIIP - LAN or TCP/IP -Manual work.

Thanks!

Here is what I have for prot triggering. I'm an idiot then it comes to networks.

Here are my settings: http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/4c015c3bea5685f6e33fee98557056e4eb822ad.jpg

If you are only port tirggering, you will be able to join a game but you will not be able to host. My ASUS wl500g only has settings for port triggers. I can join, but I can not host. Slomo replaced his router and found he was no longer able to host. He went through a lot of trouble shooting and found that he had to set the port forwarding. Once that was done, he was able to host again.

I will mention this thread to him, so that he can give you better infomation.

Hi Brit44Aldo,

Thanks for the reply!

This might help.

My router is Linksys WRT54GL

Pix of Port Forwarding setup and Port Triggering (there are none)
screens attached.

As an aside, I have at least 6 other MP games that run fine on
my LAN, some TCP/IP - without Port Forwarding or Triggering - and some IPX.

Not related to PE, but I also have GOG Comanche vs Hokum.
It too uses 47624 and 2300-2400 (hence the application name on my screenshot)
and it also does NOT work using TCP/IP on my lan.

PE uses Direct Play from Direct X 6, maybe DX7. I believe EECH is from the same era.

I have PE MP working online and over Lan. I have tested this on 3 different OS's (xpSP3, Vista, Win7) In each case the Firewall was enabled. However if leaving the firewall enabled, you must give permission for 3 of PanzerElites .exe files to communicate through the firewall. In windows firewall open the exceptions tab and add these 3 programs to the list. (gameproject.exe, mymenu.exe and panzerelite.exe) Click "Add Program", click "browse", navigate to the root folder of the PE install, select the program you wish to add. You must do this for each of the 3 files mentioned above. Do this for all the computers you intend to play PE on.

I have a Netgear router.

I did not define a port range (2300-2400).
I did however define the start and end port as 47624 for both UDP and TCP and set my PC's "IP address" as the "Server IP Address"

To ensure that you are setting it up for the correct PC you can open Network Connections in winXP. Right-click on the LAN connection and click on Status, then click on the Support tab at the top of the window that opens. You will see the IP address of your PC there.
This is the IP address you must assign the port-forwarding to.

Each of the computers on your LAN have unique IP addresses. If your router does not allow you to set up the port-forwarding for "all or any" PC's on your LAN at the same time, then I think you will need to create separate Port-forwarding definitions for each PC. In this case you will also need to determine the IP of the other PC that you want to play from.

In LAN settings : My router is set up by default as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server, which provides the TCP/IP configuration for all the computers that are connected to the router. "RIP Direction" set to "both"

I am not familiar with the Lynksys router setup, but I suspect the routers IP address is something like 192.168.0.1 This is the IP address that is visible to the internet. Each of the PC's connected to your network will have unique IP's generally they are in sequence ex. 1st PC would be 192.168.0.2 second PC would be 192.168.0.3 etc.

perhaps this link may also be of some help: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/
Guys, thanks for the additional info!

Here's the latest "news":

1 - Fresh install of directx_June2010_redist on both PC's.

2 - DirectPlay test works between PC's with no port specified,
and with 47624 specified or with 2300 specified.

3 - Both PC's have gameproject, mymenu & PE set as Win firewall exceptions.

4 - In addition to port forwarding I added port triggering for 47624 & 2300-2400 on router.

5 - With PE hosting a game I can Telnet to 47624 & 2300 and get blank screen in
command window.

6 - Attemp to join game = no joy!

6 - Disconnected cable modem from router.

7 - Turn on DMZ for serving PC IP.

8 - Turn off Win firewall on both PC's.

9 - Attempt to join game = no joy!

Apparently neither the router or Windows firewall is the issue, so I'm stumped but
will keep plugging away...

So...I bought a crossover cable and connected my PE server and client.

PE MP works, with and without Windows firewall on!!

The "problem" has to be the WRT54GL router, or rather my inability to see what
has to be changed in the router settings.

Any clues would be appreciated!

From what I can find out about your particular router it seems your PC may be using a dynamic IP address. This is the default setting, if you haven't changed it.

To setup port forwarding on this router your computer needs to have a static ip address.

You can find the info to do this here: http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
I was reading a LongBow 2 forum and ran across this post
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3378731/Multiplayer_connect_via_real_L.html#Post3378731

LongBow 2 is from the same general time as Panzer Elite. I noticed that they are also opening a second port
47624 TCP
26210 TCP
2300-2400 TCP/UDP
My problem with the multiplayer is that while I can get my friend to join the lobby the game crashes during the loading screen. Is this related to the mods downloaded from the stickied thread?
It is not the mods. PESE uses a client/client format and not a client/server format.

It is either a port configuration or the missing ability to write to the hdd. At launch time the host passes setting to all players that must be written to the players HDD.

I can join a game, but I can only host if I eliminate my router and plug directly to the cable modem. It does not matter if I use my Windows 98 machine or my XP machine. I can connect all of my machines on a LAN.

To be honest, since there has been little MP activity, I have have not looked at those bits for a long time. Too bad a service like GameRanger could not be convinced to add PESE. :) I was thinking about trading the EAW community the DX9 conversion they are lacking for there code for the ability to join an active MP, but I would need special permission from Nordic Games and I am too busy with real life as well.

Actually it seems like it was the mods I had my friend and myself uninstall and just try playing vanilla and it worked just fine.
What color is next to the names in the lobby? If it is red, your files do not match.

By color do you mean the boxes? If so what does each color mean I've seen yellow blue and green. Maybe there was red before I didn't realize at the time it was important so I wasn't paying attention.
Yellow is the host
Grey is matching game engine files
Red is non matching game engine files
Blue is Axis side
Green is Allied side

White was added to PEx mods to indicate that the landscape does not match the host. White will still play, but the impact of shells may not match between clients
