Does anyone have a solution to the save game corruption issue yet? The deleting additional saves trick DOES NOT WORK FOR ME. It's horribly irritating. I haven't played painkiller since the original because of this. No matter what I do all my saves will become corrupted somewhere between catacombs and the opera level, regardless of how many or how few save files I have in the folder.

Please, someone must have a solution to this. This bug has been around since black edition's final patch.

Actually the bug was around since after 1.31 for me at least. The 1.35 patch crashed for me. I used my retail copy and installed one patch at a time. After 1.35 the save bug occurred. So the best solution would be to go back to the 1.31 version unless someone can reverse engineer the patch and figure out where the bug is. You would have to get a copy of the original retail off ebay to do it if you like the game enough to go through the hassle.

The bad news is you can't play the expansion all the way through either, but it is better than nothing.

JKDC: . You would have to get a copy of the original retail off ebay to do it if you like the game enough to go through the hassle.
My retail copies of Painkiller and Battle out of Hell would not launch on Windows 10 because the discs are infested with SecuROM DRM and Microsoft disables SecuROM from running on Windows 10. For that reason, the quoted solution may not be viable.

As for the "Save Game Corruption issue"...I have no idea what that is. I probably played Painkiller/BooH for 100 hours or more and I never experienced any corruption issue.

However, when I cracked my retail copies in order to remove the SecuROM so that I could run the games in Windows 10, none of my old Saved Games were accessible from the in-game interface, even though they were placed into the correct folder.

In an attempt to correct the problems, I re-bought the games on GOG. Then my old Saved Games appeared again.

The cracked versions of the games listed a different version number than the unmodified official version 1.6.4 which I used to play.

The GOG version of the games listed the version number as 1.6.4, so I think that is why my old Saved Games appeared again.

From this experience, I deduce that the PK & BooH will not read Saved Games properly if the Saved Games were made using a different version number of the game(s) than the version number that the computer is currently running.

I'm not sure if the problem I'm talking about is the same thing as what you refer to as the "Save Game Corruption Issue," but what I've said is food for thought in case it might be the same issue.

In any case, my suggestions are:

1. Install the games up to version 1.6.4 before you begin playing, then start over again and hope your Saved Games don't become corrupted this time (maybe/probably/hopefully they won't).

2. Manually backup your Saved Game files, from the Windows OS interface, frequently. If and when your Saved Games become corrupted, then delete and/or overwrite all of your Saved Games with the uncorrupted backup versions.

3. (If possible): Play the games using the exact same version number with which you made the Saved Games, and possibly this will uncorrupt them (again, I'm not sure if that is your issue or not...so maybe this option is not applicable to your situation).

It will crash at a checkpoint repeatedly for me or on some of the games I cant reload saves. Painkiller 1.31,Overdose and Redemption work for me but everything else doesn't. I get a c00005 error in engine.dll when I get a ctd. It only happens to some people and nobody knows why.

EDIT: I downloaded and installed the unofficial black edition patch from pkzone and it seems to be working now!

Thanks for the follow up. I don't really feel like playing the game anymore so I can't vouch for the answer, but I will mark it as the solution for anyone in the future who might see this thread.
