I recently found myself looking for items in Painkiller with no luck. By accident I found a great resource or [url=http://lparchive.org/Painkiller-and-Battle-out-of-Hell/]here
Baldurk, Psychedelic Eyeball and Null Set have made a complete video record of every level of Painkiller. It is entertaining just to watch but I found it to be very helpful in other ways as well.
Be advised, there is occasional language that some might find offending but . . . we are playing Painkiller aren't we?

10/14/09 Update
I agree, shoot everything, shoot it twice !!
However as I continue to play Painkiller for the first time, I have found referring to these videos helpful, especially for finding Holy items, secrets and techniques. Only referring to the videos when my progress was halted, I was killed a thousand times or when I couldn't find an item after a reasonable search. It was easier than finding, downloading and reading a text walkthrough and much easier to understand since I could see exactly what I needed to do.
I understand that some would say it spoils the game but in my case, being stuck in a level or not knowing how to kill a boss (after many attempts) spoils the game as well. It's nice to know that I have a ready reference available for those times.
It occurred to me that GOG has a large and talented community of gamers which are more than capable of producing playthru videos. Maybe adding playthru videos would be something GOG would consider?
