Hi all,

I bought Painkiller: Black Edition day before yesterday here and started reading on the GOG forums about a universal update patch that fixes loading times when forcing vsync on. But I can't find it under my games? Has it been integrated into the installer at this point since the patch dates back to July 25, 2012? Is it deprecated and they chose to remove it? I just don't know the story on this since the term universal update is solely a GOG term from what I can tell. I can't find a download for the patch anywhere or a changelog that details what it is and does.

Thanks in advance ;D

The patch got removed when GOG released the newer v2 installer, so it should now be integrated into the installer. Current installer version is 2.0.0.7.

Thanks, korell. I needed confirmation. Now i know that the update was integrated into v2 installer of game!

But on a peculiar sidenote, I had enabled VSync (in Catalyst software) as I was trying to remove screen tearing I was finding in the game. This was when i first noticed longer loading times even with this update integrated into the v2 installer I used to install the game. CrAZy. So, for me, the long loading times are still there for some reason.

Using Dxtory, I was able to monitor the fps in real time. When VSync is off the loading times are blazing fast... but the fps shoots up to like 2,000 during the very start of the loading process. So the loading in Painkiller, the way its programmed, benefits from higher end graphics cards that can produce a huge fps when operated "wide-open." At least, I've found this makes the loading overall TONS quicker. If Vsync is on or any fps cap/limit is used, the loading will take a while as it can't reach that initial 2,000 fps jump it naturally wants. I don't want to use my graphics card this way though as it's unhealthy and cause coil whine.

Just thought I'd throw that out there to conjure any geekery talk among the forumers. Its stuff like this that makes me glad I'm a PC gamer. It's like a puzzle game and a shoot em up in one ; )

Hmm, interesting. I'll ask in the "What did just update?" thread, see if anyone knows more.

And you are definitely using installer version 2.0.0.7?

Yes. I'm using 2.0.0.7
I thought maybe it was me using Powermad 3.62 patch that might have messed things up somehow. So i just reinstalled the game without that addition but the loading times with Catalyst VSync on is still a fairly long wait (from 30 seconds to maybe a minute for levels).

I am using HD aspect ratio 1920x1080 with anisotropic filtering. All other settings are default.

Thanks, Thiev! Tried the newly added update this morning. Works great. :-)
Glad my question to the "What did just update?" thread resulted in the fix. :)
