Hey all - I wouldn't normally buy FPS shooters due to my inability to move my weapon target accurately and quickly. However, I've seen GOG's promo and checked a few reviews and it all sounds like mindless and violent fun!

I just wondered whether I'm likely to struggle to the point of frustration - even on the Daydream level.

If it helps, I just about managed to complete Mass Effect 2 on the PC (I'm aware that's from a 3rd person perspective).....I tried Resistance 2 and never completed it due to the frequent and bloody death of my character.

Thanks - all GOG'ers opinions would be gratefully received.

I guess the game is ok even for a novice. As you said the game isn't about skills, it's more about shooting some demons while you listen to an amazing and brutal soundtrack, just for the fun.

It's been a long time since I don't play it, but I don't recall it being a hard game. I was really young when I played and was playing well, I guess.

I just bought it right now and can't wait to finish the download. :D

Daydream shouldn't be a problem at all. The good thing about Painkiller is that it's just as difficult as you want it to be. Also, you learn pretty fast as well in this game as it's all about the action, and especially in the beginning you have lots of oppoturnities to try out new things, allowing you to get better. It's not just about aim and cover, it's even more about movement.

I've just started on Daydream difficulty....I hate to think what it's like when it's cranked up!

You should go ahead and just play it on the recommended difficulty setting. Setting the game to an easy difficulty takes away the number of demons you have to fight which could make the game a little boring since the main drive of the game is to bring back that old fashioned Doom feeling of being overwhelmed. The easier you set it the less stuff you have to kill.

The only issue that I have with the difficulty settings is that certain levels are locked out. On Daydream (or even Insomnia) you'll miss a good half-dozen levels your first playthrough. However, one of the really nice things about Painkiller is the save system, since you can carry over your cash and cards onto the next difficulty level when you replay the game.

My first time through was on Insomnia, and when I replayed it on Nightmare it was MUCH MUCH easier (in a sense) because I already had all the cards I needed, and I didn't have to worry about fulfilling any special requirements because I'd already done them. I only had to worry about the conditions for the newly unlocked levels. (I'm not really a fan of Trauma, though, because nobody drops souls. The soul mechanic is one of the cooler aspects to me.)

The only locked levels I know of are Prison (Chapter II level 1) (Nightmare or above) and Forest (Chapter IV level 4?) (Trauma). Then again, I never really played daydream but I believe there is one locked level more at most.

Call me lazy, but I'd like to play those maps (Prison and Forest) without starting over on a higher difficulty. Advice?

I've used PowerMad with a disc installed version, worked as it was supposed to.
