Can't even get the initial DOSBox screen to show. The pacgen.exe app crashes immediately. Anyone else with this experience?

Bought Fantasy General and it boots, but haven't gotten into a game yet.

Pacific General doesn't run through DOSbox, but, nevertheless, it should be working. Could you send a ticket to support with your system info so that we can look into this? :)

To jrregan: I recognize where you got your avatar........

Come to think of it, I keep on meaning to suggest to GOG they get a couple of the old Avalon Hill computer games . "OVer the Reich" "Achtung.Spitfire" "Kingmaker" and "Wooden Ships and Iron Men" in particular...

Have you contacted GOG support?

BTW you will NEVER get the DOSbox screen to show, because PacGen is not a DOS game. It was always a Windows 95 game..the first release in the General series not to have a DOS version.

LOL, you are literally the first on that!

Yeah, I would love to see those games come, but wonder if the volume might keep them from being brought in. They didn't have a big audience initially unfortunately.

Yeah, I recognized that after it was pointed out. I had mistaken the gog launcher window for the DOS Box window and just assumed it was being run under DOS Box. It's not.

Followed all the suggestions and it still crashed. Giving up on it. I've got a XP rig and will try i on that one of these days. Well, OOB Pacific 'General' should give me my fix!

Would love to be able to play these games with modern rigs, but it's not likely. Finally broke down and admitted I need to get an old style rig with 95/98/XP as the core and leave it at that. They I can play those old games without fighting the 8/16 16/32 dos/windows hybrid situations that cause these issues.

Ok, actually got PacG to run. Had to tighten everything down to the Win95 compatibility to get it to run. Will update with the exact settings when i've got a bit of time.

You might say I haven't been that tight since right after the divorce! :)

It's been awhile. Let me figure out where I am on this and i'll update this by end of year. I did get it up and started a quick campaign start to see if it would crash or go, but it appeared to work.

I basically have all the compatibility actions turned out. Focused on Win95. Also have the Run As Admin setting ticked. Believe you have to have that set initially before you start adjusted (ticking) the other settings as it get's greyed out. Don't know if it's acted on when it's greyed out or not. I've attached an screen shot of the properties tab.

Try that see it works.

I didn't uninstall it and reinstall it with those settings just took a shot of what I had. i did start it up and got it thru turn 1 of a Jap Campaign start, so it works as is. Again, forgot what all I did, so if that doesn't work. I'll go the long route and try from scratch.

I think his problem was more with launch.

Twas the same problem I had until I read your post jrregan. Thanks a lot for your help. I had this title for a couple of months and tried a whole bunch of homemade recipes to fix this; None of which worked.

Now I am spreading the co-prosperity sphere.
