Hi guys,
Hopefully someone can help me about this, I just started up the game and I cannot play the game, sound works but it's just a black screen with a small pixelated box in the corner, and I can't see anything else and I can't play the game at all and have to alt tab out.
I'm running a GeForce gtx 980 card on windows 7 64 bit.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Hey,
I got the exact same problem --- trying to launch the game, the 3dfx logo appears and right after that a greyish box appears in the upper left corner of the monitor.

At first I suspected my gfx card having a problem with the game (got a GTX980 aswell) so I tried it out at a friends house who has a GTX670 --- same problem.

When alt-tabbing out I sometimes see an error window saying that LECDDRAW.dll caused an error
"Error 887601c2 while locking back buffer. Access to the surface is refused because the surface memory is gone. The DirectDrawSurface object representing this surface should have the iDirectDrawSurface2:: Restore methold called on it."

Not sure if this is caused by me alt-tabbing out or if it is indeed the initial problem but I too am hoping for a fix.
opened a ticket with GOG earlier -- in my case the game worked after I disabled DSR in the Nvidia settings.

What do you mean wiht DSR? I don't see this option in my settings.
Open the Nvidia Control Panel, then go to "Manage 3D settings"
Under Global Settings you should see a setting called "DSR - Factors" -- uncheck every box there (at that point this setting should switch to "Off") -- after that just hit "ok" and "Apply".

Not sure if this is the solution to your problem aswell but its worth a shot.
Switching off DSR in the Nvidia control panel worked for me too. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to relive this classic. :)

Weee, worked for me too. Thanks a lot!
I too am having graphical problems. Not using Nvidia though. Just a regular built in Intel i5 (so I guess thats Intel HD graphics). The game is unplayable.

Try this. Go to main folder and open olcfg file. Then choose 3dfx glide. I have this bug on direct 3d renderer. Perhaps on your system, game choose direct 3d by default.

Unfortunately in 3dFX mode the game doesn't launch for me. I have to change to D3D and it launches and looks fine, until the bug in the video
Do you have nglide installed on your system?

Installed nglide and changed the settings back to 3DFX but game still doesn't launch

That's strange. Nglide should work just fine. For old games like Outlaws, wrapper or emulators , are better than native driver. Sorry i can't help you. Maybe try contact support?
I have an issue also. Dynamites and knives are invisible. Strange... I can pick them up if I happen to touch them but I just can't see them at all.
Note: I do not own Outlaws here on Gog (not yet, anyway)

You should try to revert to software rendering, Outlaws was made for DirectDraw and 3D acceleration was added later as an afterthought (as the 3Dfx craze has just begun).
The original game allowed to switch to completely unaccelerated version and presumably, it should be possible to do it even with this one.
Sorry, I can not be more specific, as I do not own this game here... the original had a configuration utility to do this.

(funny side note - adding 3D graphics actually slightly broke some of the levels, so if you are experiencing troubles, you should really try "2D" mode, there is at least one place in the main game which is problematic and of course, if you ever dive into various user created levels, well, that is a proverbial can of worms waiting to be opened)

Edit2: there is even a dedicated thread to running Outlaws in sw mode, so I will kindly direct you there:
