Great! I'd very much like to see that! I think it'll help generate interest if people have some help in getting started so you might see people take notice if you upload what you have so far first. You could try mediafire, google drive or sharing through drop box.

If multiplayer community makes a revive i'm sure people will want to know how to make their own maps. Same happened with duke3d when megaton edition hit steam. Sadly though Duke3D megaton edition still uses the same crappy networking code it did in 1996 and isn't very stable if the person you're playing with isn't relatively close to you so it doesn't see much attention as it could have. But at least outlaws always had a pretty stable network code so if gog ever fixes up multiplayer (it's listed singleplayer atm) it'll be pretty solid still.

Well, here are links to the built-in help files and tutorials. Note, I have pretty much left the files as-is. There are quite a few dead links, and the tutorial is full of grammatical mistakes, but is still pretty easy to follow along to. (Hope these links work)

Looking through both files, I can see where a lot more help could be given. There are a lot of flags that just don't get covered in either file, and it probably be useful for newbies to know what each flag does.

In the tutorial, the author claims that the INF editor can do some really powerful stuff, but keeps the programming to pretty basic concepts. I guess the INF editor is more or less modeled after Dark Forces, so maybe there is more documentation for that game that can be applied.

It would be great to create an ADVANCED tutorial that really goes into the meat and bones of the editor, I just need to decide if I want to put forth the effort. I'd also need ideas on topics that folks would like to see covered :)

Aside from that, a document that explains all the flags and INF functions would be helpful. Plus, perhaps all the information needed to create a singleplayer level and a multiplayer level.

I would like to see documentation on how to make singleplayer vs multiplayer levels. Especially since Outlaws has significantly more MP to SP levels

Just mostly stuff like how to make triggers for certain things in levels like doors that only open after you flip a switch/kill a specific enemy. Or the level end trigger.

You could ask a forum administrator to. There's lots of useful information pertaining to mapping in this thread. Hopefully more so in the future if people find the interest and start sharing their work. I've personally been too busy with other stuff to get into editing outlaws again but in the future i hope to make use of the tutorials and links more effectively.

Great to see some people still involved in that game. A have a few friends still playing and there's this Facebook group from people who used to play on MSN Zone and then Warzone, along with this outlaws50 forum but it's really a pain to use. Some people still play on Evolve too.

I created a website yesterday (www.palerider67.com) to publish my first map (actually, I did several a few years ago but never finished one) which is a remake of counter-strike's de_dust2.

I plan to add some Outlaws stuff such as will as a listing of still active players, troubleshooting steps for Outlaws and Lawmakers, updated tutorials, videos about mapmaking, stuff like that. I used to consider Paleface.net the ultimate maps archive, which it still is (and there's places linked in this topic such as olhideout and theoutlawdad) but it would be nice to have a centralized website and forum to gather all the remaining guys, and encourage new people to join us.

Single player levels are not harder to make than multiplayer ones. My current project is building some of Desperados (the 2001 game) best missions in Outlaws. Lots of work but I think I can do it, and any help is welcome. I'll post some news on palerider67.com regarding this within the next few weeks. There are some exciting things to do and creating custom weapons for Outlaws isn't too hard either.

Regarding troubleshooting, every problem has it's solution. The only thing that hasn't been solved on Oultaws since XP was the "?" and backspace not working. For the rest, you can always edit windows registry (carefully), close explorer.exe using a bash script to fix colors, try different video settings, try the D3D update, GOG's version (5 dollars or something)... for Lawmaker, Test button has never worked for me since XP but File / Test works fine as mentioned earlier in this topic. Compatiblity mode for Lawmaker has solved this for some people as well. I personnally play Outlaws and use Lawmaker in Oracle's Virtualbox machine and Windows XP, just disable mouse integration to play Outlaws there. But latest news confirm you can run the game on Win 7, 8 and 10. Some guy ("Slater's Dog's" 's nephew I think) modified the game to make sure it works on 7 and 8, this version should still be available to some players (although you need to own the game for it to be legal, it's not an abandonware yet).

Last but not least, the oleditor.dll needs to be put in Outlaws files for you to be able to use the OLEDIT "cheat code" in Windows mode and fix your textures, it's a pleasure to use once you master it and it takes a few minutes only. A video tutorial would be nice so I'll consider doing this soon. You can find the editor DLL in this ZIP file: legendband.com/outlaws/sector_wall_adjuster.zip

Could you or anyone else provide some basic guidance about how to add map files to the directory?

I am curious about playing custom levels. I downloaded one single-player custom level, which came in a ZIP file with two .txt files, a .lab file, and a .rca file. Where within the Outlaws game files do I put them?

I'm not particularly experienced with going through and modifying game files, but I've played custom levels on a couple other games in the past, and in all those instances, it was pretty clear where the custom files go.

Here, I can't find a folder within the Outlaws game icon that seems to be where a new map would go.

Any help would be appreciated!

The files just go in the Oulaws folder/directory.

Another note for potential LawMakers. The .hlp files may need a separate program to run. winhlp32.exe.
