Hi all,
Thanks to all at GOG.com for bringing this game back into my life :)

I have just completed it (using the high res patch) and it was as good a game as it was way back when it came out. I am actually amazed at how good it still is compared to modern games of today (actually a lot better than most).

Another thank you to _zenger_ who has made this game really playable again on today's hardware and in High Resolution it looks GREAT.

I actually still have the original game CDs but couldn't play it due to the twon-hon bugs etc. so I bought it again via GOG.com.

The only issue I had was with the amazing orchestral music ( I think this was the first game to have such music). The Audio constantly kept skipping like a bad CD. However this was remedied by lowering the Hardware acceleration to basic. (GOG.com maybe you should mention that somewhere?).

The only thing that stops this games from being as good as today's is the low resolution texture maps on the character faces and leaves on trees. (Zenger maybe the next patch? ), but this does not detract from the pure brilliance of this game. It still puzzles me how this failed to sell back in the day.

I'm off now to buy a Ulukai T-shirt and join the OpenOutcast.org guys and offer my 3d skills to them. I need more Cutter Slade!

Anyway thanks again guys I salute you :D

I think a lot of it had to do with the hardware requirements at the time. The game did not support everyone's new 3D accelerator cards, but rather relied on the processor, and back then you needed the absolute best processor in order to actually get the game to play. I remember trying the demo and thinking it looked awesome but being unable to play because it was chugging along at around 5 fps or so.

I eventually grabbed an old CD copy and actually played through the game for the first time a year or two ago, and it was totally awesome. Then it was added to GOG's catalogue, complete with a processor speed fix, and so of course I had to buy it. Eventually I'm going to get around to replaying it with Zenger's patch because that sounds awesome. But even with the original graphics it was one of the best games I ever played.
