_Zenger_, you are wonderful. Thankyou kindly for the fix, the music is beautiful in my first few minutes and I'm very, very glad to be able to listen to it without problems =)
Your patch makes the music stop skipping, but it stops 3d sound, so I only get sound from my two front speakers. This also makes the music and sounds generally more muffled.

Hi UK_John, You're totally right, that's why I said, and I quote: "PLEASE DON'T USE IT IF THE MUSIC IN YOU GAME WORKS OK because it's not a patch, it's a trick that should only be used as a last resort if you're having problems with the music" and also: "Anyway, take this as an alternative to lower the aceleration on the dxdiag panel that usually also fixes the problem "

Because It's not really a patch, is a trick to avoid lowering HW aceleration each time You want to play the game, but lowering HW aceleration doesn't come free I'm afraid.

I've read Your other post about this and I see that you have tested lowering the HW sound aceleration and obtained similar results. Sadly, without the code of the game It would be hard to try to fix this, at least that's what I think, I may be wrong.

You could try though, to update your sound card drivers, because the problem comes from there, from the bad quality of the drivers of some new sound cards, maybe You are lucky and the problem is fixed that way.

For example my Realtek integrated audio has this problem, even with the drivers updated, so I've no other option that lower HW sound aceleration, but to avoid doing this every time, I did this little "trick program"

Sorry I can't be of more help

Kind regards
Thanks _Zenger_ for the detailed reply. As much as you have tried to fix this GOG version you are sort of saying you haven't been able to, so is this a working game on modern PC's as GOG promises? I am considering asking for a refund or credit note, because if a game has 3D sound and the GOG version cannot do that, it is not a fully working game.
It would seem graphic issues get more attention than sound issues and i have a feeling everyone will say I will have to put up with the music in a way I wouldn't be asked to if it was graphical!

Hi, UK_John, I'm _Zenger_, I can't log with my user right now

I just wanted to say, just in case, to avoid misunderstanding, that I don't work in GOG. I'm just an user/buyer like You, I just wanted to say this, as I say, to avoid misunderstanding

Kind regards
Hi UK_John, I'm _Zenger_ again

I've working in a new music patch that You could try, the patch itself is done but now I'm making the program that applies it. I'll create a new post with the patch, You could try It to see if that solves the problems

Kind regards

Hi UK_John, I'm _Zenger_ again

Have You tried the patch?, does it work for You?

It is not working for some people, making the game crash immediately, but don't worry, the patch can be removed with a click and, it's not that the patch is badly done, the patch is very precise and goes directly to fix the problem with the music. The problem may be with some sound cards, maybe the code of the game follows another route, I don't know.

The patch works or it doesn't and crash the game before You can do anything, what I mean is that the patch doesn't create inestability at all, as I say, or it works or it doesn't and the game doesn't even start

I was looking for someone who could try some different small tests to try to find why is all this, because It's working for me and it's very hard to guess why it's not working for some people without feedback

If it doesn't work for you and You have a little time to test some patches/tests please tell me, I'd help a lot, because right now I'm not working on this anymore and It's a pity, I'd like to make this work for everybody

Kind regards
As posted in your new thread I tried 2a but the links for Version 3 didn't work

I got the 4 channel sound back with 2a, which was a lot better, but found that the volume changer between music and sound effects didn't work, and it seems they were both set at maximum.

I would love to test version 3 when the links are back up, but 2a is a lot better in terms of 4 channel clear sound effects and music!
