NEW NOTE: THERE IS A BETTER PATCH HERE:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/outcast/new_music_patch_for_the_music_problem

Hi, I've programmed a "patch" to fix the problem of the music that some of us have (the music sounds like it jumps for one position to another)

PLEASE DON'T USE IT IF THE MUSIC IN YOU GAME WORKS OK because it's not a patch, it's a trick that should only be used as a last resort if you're having problems with the music

This problem with the music is beacuse of the bad quality of the drivers of some sound cards of today, there is a story behind this problem, I call it "the liar sound cards" XD
I haven't tested it much because sadly, I don't have time right now to play Outcast, so maybe it doesn't work but you can try if you wish, it seems to work for me

Don't worry, the program doesn't touch any files of the game or install anything so you can test it and if it doesn't work just delete the exe and that's all you have to do
I hope it works, I've tested only an hour or so but it seems to work, al least for me, if it doesn't work I'm afraid I can't do more, with the code of the game It could be fixed relatively fast but without it....

Anyway, take this as an alternative to lower the aceleration on the dxdiag panel that usually also fixes the problem

Now I can too
And it worked beautifully, thank you _Zenger_
niiice, thanks for the effort!
download unavailable at the moment, will try again later.
Could you please describe in a few words what your patch does ? I don't like to install programs I don't understand on my computer...
Nice patch, all sound problems solved in an instant. Thanks!
Excellent work! Fixed issue like a charm. Also added a skip intro option. Well done!
Hi, I'm glad that the program works :D

I understand you perfectly Nnexxus, but don't worry because:
-Of course, the program doesn't change anything of the operating system at all
-The program doesn't change any configuration
-The program doesn't change any file of the game
-Well, in fact, the program doesn't change anything at all
-The program doesn't need to be installed, it's just a standalone file that can be deleted anytime
But, answering you question, what the program does is:
-It looks for a very specific type of sound resource
-It uses all the available sound resources of that type
-Then, when the game tries to use that same type of sound resource, it can't because there is none free, so It uses other kind of resource in wich the music problem doesn't occur
When the program closes, it frees all the sound resources it has used, that's why the program must be running while playing the game, because if it's closed, the resources are free again to be used by the game and the problem returns
Well, this explanation isn't technically accurate at all, but I think it illustrates what the program does, and although I've called the program a "patch" it's not really a patch, It's a trick that should only be used as a last resort if you're having problems with the music.
I hope that helps

_Zenger_: I hope that helps

I does, thanks ! I'll try your "fix" as soon as I can download the file.
I guess it might also work for other old games for which the "dxdiag->basic sound acceleration" trick must be used ? I have no specific game in mind, but in case I run into this problem with another game, it's good to know.

Yes, It should work too, at least in most of them
File not available at the moment for some reason :( I really need this patch, lowering the aceleration on the dxdiag didn't help me. Could it be uploaded to another mirror perhaps?
By the way does this patch actually change the game in any way (apart from fixing the problem)? Does it play all tracks at all places or something like that?
Edit. Ok download worked now. This fixed the problem and no-intro option is nice too. Thanks Zenger!
