Hey guys,
So since I can't install any of the Full Screen patches for Outcast because I have
the 2CD-Version : is it even possible for me to play that game in higher resoultion and without those black bars ?

Windows 7 64 bit

Thanks in advance
The game runs at 512x384, which is an odd resolution. Most monitors today are incapable of going to a lower resolution than 640x480, so the best you will see is probably your monitor set to 640x480 and the game running at 512x384 in the middle of your screen, with the rest of the space taken up by black bars. The black bars shouldn't be too big if your monitor is actually set to 640x480, but if you have a widescreen monitor then it will look like there's a lot of black space. Basically, a 4:3 monitor would still have black bars around all four sides of the image, and a widescreen monitor is going to have even more black space on the sides.

Unless your monitor supports a custom resolution of 512x384, you're unlikely to get any better without using Zenger's high-resolution patch. Are you sure this patch won't work with the 2CD version?

hanks for making Patch 4 available. I know get full screen but still walk in Reece and cannot ride Twon-ha, but I have a slowdown utility called Speedswitch that slows the PC down and allow me to run in the Reece, etc. I also have to set sound acceleration to 1 of 3 to be able to get NPC speech working, but I sometime gets feedback noises when i have the menu or inventory up, etc.

Just a heads up for people.

Actually the GOG release has a fix for the problem with riding a Twon-ha. This was apparently a fan-made fix and the person who made it made the conscious decision to limit movement to walking while in the Riss fields, so that's still there. But in the GOG version there are no problems with riding the Twon-ha.

If anyone's trying to get a CD version running, however, the CPU speed tricks will be very useful.

EDIT: Or people can just grab the patch made by terence_13 and AtomicJo (see posts below).

The nasty "CPU speed trick" is exactly what I got rid of by making this patch with AtomicJo, and I do also have the 2 CD version (the initial patch worked only for the 2CD version)..so I don not understand the need of CPU slowdow utilities? And yes, I did deliberately decide against running in mud, as this makes no sense and was certainly not intended by Appeal.

Well, when I first played my CD version a few years ago, I didn't know about your patch so I had to use a CPU slowing program. I guess now people can just grab your patch instead!
If you look at Outcast trailers of the day, you could see that Cutter DID run through the Riss! So I would disagree with comments that Appeal initially wanted you to walk through Riss!

Cutter also ran through the Riss when I played using a CPU slowing program. So if players want that functionality they can try using a slowing program instead of the fan patch, but it would only work on a non-GOG version since GOG has incorporated the fan patch.

But, CPU slowing programs are kind of annoying... one has to find the exact right setting to get everything working without crashing the game, and even after I found a sweet spot I think certain other things in the game weren't working. My HAWK MK8 seemed to shoot straight through enemies without hitting them, for example.

Overall, the fan fix (included in the GOG version) is probably the easiest way to get the game running, even though Cutter will be forced to walk through the Riss fields.

Also, can't Cutter ride a Twon-ha through the Riss instead?

As I say, I use one program SpeedSwitchXP, with when set to "battery saving" it makes my 2.7ghz dual core into a 1Ghz machine. That's all I need other than lowering sound acceleration.

As to the Twon-Ha. Yes, that would be fine, but not in battles.

You can fight while riding the Twon-ha.

I meant the feasibility of fighting, not the fact you couldn't fight.
