Hi, I hope someone can help with this hopefully straight forward question!

I'm really enjoying playing through this awesome game again. I've installed the game from gog and made no modifications at the moment. I've bought a few weapons and noticed that I am unable to shoot the LN-DUO or the flame thrower.

I have my secondary button configured as the mouse button, so I use this to aim (works fine with the pistol). my primary button is CTRL.

If I have the LN-DUO equipped, press the secondary button, the weapon is raised and if I press and hold the primary button the weapon does not "charge up" if I release the button there is an audible "click" in the game. Similar issue with the flame thrower.

Any ideas?

Thanks :)
Do you have any ammo for them? The click might be what happens when you're empty.

Hi Yeah,

I've got plenty of ammo. This is some kind if technical or key configuration problem. It is with any weapon that "charges-up" when you press the primary action key and fires when you release it.

This is really frustrating, as I can't clear the well because you need to use this type of weapon. Does anyone else have this issue?

The only thing that I can think that might be different about my setup is I'm running this on a Win8 virtual machine on my mac......

Are you running the GOG version of the game? If not, you might be running into the well-known processor speed issues. You can try slowing your processor down with something like CPUGrabber, which can often fix weird issues like this.

If you're running the GOG version, however, all processor speed problems should be fixed. It could be related to running in the Win 8 virtual machine, I don't know. Is it possible to run a Win 7 virtual machine instead? Or even XP? I don't have any experience with Windows virtualmachines on Macs, so I don't know what might cause problems. Anyone else have suggestions?
Thanks for the reply, man. Yeah I'm using the GOG version. I could try setting up a Win7 VM possibly - I'm reluctant to loose my progress so far though and not so sure if MS still sell Win 7?

It would be great to hear from someone else who is running in a virtual machine to hear if they had the same problem.

The other idea I had is maybe using an Xbox 360 controller and xPadder instead of using my keyboard. I haven't looked into this too deeply because I'm guessing if xPadder just maps to key presses on the keyboard the result maybe exactly the same (I haven't got a controller so would be buying one specifically to try this...)

Any thoughts on this are most welcome!

If you back up your savegame files you would not lose any progress. I don't know about finding a copy of Win 7 though. You might look around for others who may be having trouble running the game in WIndows 8, just to see if it's not a Windows problem rather than a virtual machine problem.

xPadder will just map keyboard keys to your controller, so it probably won't fix the problem. It's definitely not worth buying a controller just to try it, since I doubt it will work.

It sounds like something more basic with the game, or possibly your control scheme. Have you tried using a different key than CTRL? I think when I played I used the right mouse button for aiming and the left mouse button for shooting. Since you only have one mouse button, maybe play around with using different keys for shooting, or maybe swap it so you use a key for aiming and the mouse button for shooting. Maybe the "charging up" function is somehow unique to the mouse rather than a keyboard key? Worth a shot, anyway.

Anyone else seen a problem like this, or have experience running the game through a virtual machine?
