Downloaded and played the game fine, for several hours. I played it years ago, so am not new to it or how it functions. The game played flawlessly, including navigation, combat, conversation and running errands, inventory management, using the transporters, buying ammo, being healed by the Shamaz, and so on. I used the "gaamsaav" at several points, and then, after several hours of play, I exited the game.

This morning, on start up, Outcast cannot find my Saved games, and wants to relaunch the game from the Start, with the endless intro video. If I hit ESC to stop this, I get the menu with the LOAD GAME option, but when I select it, all the saved game slots are blank lines!

In the "Saved Games" folder my C drive file structure, there is only one file in the "SLOT 0" position, and it has four components. The four component files are as follows:

cutter OSG (11KB)
game0 NAM (1 KB)
global OSG (114 KB)
neige OSG (14 KB)

No evidence of any other saves. I have a sinking feeling that all this is is the first few minutes after the intro video. My hours of game play are lost. Anyone know what the problem is?

Bit more complex. I had outcast installed outside c:\program files (x86) and still no saved games. Outcast creates a savegames directory and after completing the first scene there is a slot0 directory underneath.

However the launcher stays empty (lines no text when loading a game). Even after I saved a game in the second scene (Shamazaar).

What I noticed was that the loader has only 8 lines for saved games and they are numbered from 1 to 8 (so slot0 never shows up).

I just copied slot0 to slot1 and that worked. I saved a additional game (not to the top slot but the one on the right and it shows up under slot8.

In my case the saved games where created underneath the install directory due to not installing in program files.
