Hi there, everyone, who stumbles upon this topic!
I never played Original War before, but since I had a free game coupon and this game looked quite interesting, I ended up spending my coupon on it, downloaded it, installed it and started a campaign. Then, I lived happily ever after.
A nice story indeed, but unfortunately it never happened. When I click on either the russian or american campaign's picture in the campaign menu, the screen freezes and the game gives the following error:
ErrorType : WndProc
ErrorText : Cannot create image(AmerTreeRectYellow.tga). Invalid dimensions: 0x0
(Taken from the error log)
Well no problem, maybe a patch solves it... (1.10b)
It didn't.
Let's play with the compatibility options, game configuration and "Run program as administrator." kind of things, then.
Didn't help either.
Although I sent a mail to support, I'm quite sure they have a lot on their hands as this is a beta and probably they have better things to do to solve an error that only a few people experienced, so after some thought and search on the Internet (with no result, expect from a few cases like mine, unsolved) I decided to ask for people's help here, since it would seem, that many have played this game, so maybe someone knows the solution to my problem.
Long story short: I would be ever thankful if someone could help! (:
Here is the full error log:

This question / problem has been solved by Faithfulimage
Okey, try my link i posted in the other thread about this game. A patch would most certainly fix this problem.
http://www.owsupport.com/?sect=patches
Thanks, but I tried this alredy. Didn't help. :(
Actually, the version you can buy at GOG is 1.10, and the one at the site you linked is 1.10b, so there is no big difference.
But thanks for replying.

Originally I had issue with the game crashing after mission 1 summary.
It seems to be resolved after patching from 1.10 to 1.10b, so you might want to give it a try.
Use the v1.10b Patch (1.09->1.10b) instead of the full 1.10b patch.
Thanks for the tip, however...
I tried this after reinstalling the game, but it still does the same...
Well... thats Vista for you... Its a crappy OS and im pretty sure the GOG team did not patch and tried the game on all versions of it. (home, buisness, ultimate and so on).
Go back to XP its better in all way and takes alot less memory and if you like you can still have all the cosmetics of Vista on it
Well Vista has it's good points too, like sooner or later everything will be Vista only. Also, if used properly, Vista can be a more secure (and stable) system compared to XP. With all this said, I'm not particularly found of it, only, I find this OS greatly underrated and blamed for basically everything that goes wrong.
Still, it is true that this problem will most probably be solved if I use XP...
But, the best thing about GOG is that they make old games XP and Vista compatible, so I'm sure they will solve this problem as well.
Until then, I guess I will take your advice and try playing OW on XP...if I manage to find my install disk...
But if anyone has ideas on how to get it running on Vista, I'm all ears...(well, in this case, eyes)
Well the games are supposed to be Vista and XP compatible but bugs to occur ofcourse. The hardware might also be a cause of this. But imo Vista is all cosmetica and not much else.
And the "all things will ultimetly only support Vista" won't happen because of these things:
1. Windows 2000 is still supported by many things and almost every game out there.
2. The majority still uses XP (not sure)
3. A new OS will be out next year or so (Windows 7)
I just hope they make Windows 7 more gaming friendly.
Are you still having this problem? I'm curious because I just bought the game and hope I won't have the same problems.

imho i think it is also a problem with the graphic card. Not that its broken just that it's too new. You might have to change settings to the desktop and whatnot. Try reinstalling the game. Try matching the desktop res to the games (1024x800). Try to change something in the properties on the OW.exe. I've noticed that in MANY games the sound is the cause of many problems. Go into the game/launcher and change the settings there.
If everything fails try to change too XP.
To answer the question, yeah, I still have this problem, hopefully, you won't have it...
I tried what you wrote qwsed, but to no avail. Thanks, anyway. I will try and get it running on some other family member's computer. They still use XP, fortunately.
About what you wrote before:
Yes, in fact I'm starting to think it might be the hardware. Many old games have something against multicore processors...but it might be Vista as well...I won't reinstall here though, I just did it a few months ago, and other computers in the family are single-core, so I won't find out...
And yes, I went a bit too far with that "Vista only" thing, what I mean, that after some time, XP won't be supported any more, but that won't be for a long time, since XP runs on weaker machines as well, while Vista requires a small nuclear reactor, if you plan doing something like playing games apart from just being happy, that your computer can run Vista.
Well, actually, there are a few merits to this OS, for example Dx10 and with a few more service packs, it can really become a good operating system.
But I'm starting to go off topic here, soo...suppose I should stop.
haha, dont fret ^^
Well patches are still being made for the game so fixes might come out sooner or later. I can play it on my dualcore but i havnt tried it on Vista yet.
I've noticed tho that MANY games have something against new graphic cards. Rune doesnt work at all for me... it just randomfreezes and unfreezes all the time. No matter what i do i cant run it.
For the record:
I tried this MD5 thing and although it did not match, re-downloading and re-installing did not help. (The checksum matches this time.)
Hi there, everyone!
Today, I'm here to tell everyone a story. A sad story of misunderstanding. I don't knodw it very well, so just the important parts:
As you may know NASA uses SI system of measurement, while in most part of USA, the inch-pound-etc. system is the common. Why start my story with this? Simple: Once, the NASA requested the production of a (spaceship's) landing unit (or certain parts of it) from a company in the USA. They sent the necessary data to produce the unit, but forgot to specify the system of measurement (or something along those lines). The company's engineers thought the length is in inches, while NASA's plans contained length data in centimetres.
In the end, the landing unit crashed.
This story came to my mind today, when I finally understood why OW failed to run properly.
I had to change the regional settings! The format, to be precise.
Funny, isn't it?
Since I can't mark my own post as the solution, could somebody reply something like what I wrote in bold?
Thanks!

Anyone? Please...
Just write, that changing the "format" to english (US) in the regional settings of the control panel will solve such problems.
Thanks!
