I hesitated to buy it since there was compatibility issues, but as they wrote it was compatible with windows 8, I jumped on it...
Do they really test the game on all systems before release?

Hi timeslip,

I don't know if it's a windows 8 issue but it seems your hack don't work for me: I get the same error message (of course I used your file because I was getting the error in the first place)

I sure hope they'll find a fix ...

Ah well, it works for me, on win 7 x64 with me faking my card as 3gb, so hopefully it'll work for at least some people. I've already sent in a proper fix. Assuming it works, it'll show up at some point.

I doubt that anything in the world is tested on all systems. The number of possible hardware/software configurations that exist in the PC world is a little on the large side for that. :p It was tested on a 3gb card prior to release though, so there must be something that stops it from failing sometimes.

EliParker: anyone able to find a workaround yet? This can't be the first time this "Not enough of Video Memory" has happened before the game was on GOG.com.

timeslip: Here's a temporary workaround for you: http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/temp/quickhackythingy.zip

Extract that to your omicron directory, (the same folder that Runtime.exe is sitting in) and run it, and it'll launch omicron bypassing the problematic bit of code.

Thank you, I just tried it and it works. Thank you and have a great day.
when running ur files supplied i get runtime.exe has stopped responding but I thank u seems it works for some :)

trog69: I have the evga gtx 680 4gb ftw card, so I'm not gonna buy unil I see a fix. Too bad. I knew getting the 4gb was a bit of an overkill, but I play at 2560x1440, and my former 580 1.5gb card was running up against the vRam wall with Skyrim. Heh.
Oh, and I have a 680M 4gb in the lappy, so no go there, either. sheesh.

timeslip: A laptop with 4gb of video ram? o.O

Speaking of which, I wonder how these old games are going to cope when cards have more than 4gb of ram on them. Those versions of directx have no way of reporting numbers bigger than 4gb...
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised that it was a 4gb card rather than a regular 680 2gb. I don't know for sure, but I think that the only 680M cards for laptops are the 4gb models. It's the IBuyPower Valkerie CZ-17 model, and for less than $1600, it's a monster. The 680M is supposedly equivalent to a desktop HD 7870 card, which is plenty of firepower for a laptop, even if it's used as a desktop replacement and pushing a 24" monitor.
I'm having the inadequate video card capacity problem, too, with a three gig card! I installed the quickyhack and nothing happened.

I'm running Windows 8. Will there be any sort of an update? I love Omikron and am thrilled at having the chance to play it again.

Help!
I wonder, I may be wrong but I saw that now the prerequisite for the game have been changed a 2g memory card...
Does it mean that they gave up on fixing it?

I had old windows CDs around so I set up a virtual machine to play but it's not without its problems...

We are investigating this exact issue and haven't given up on fixing it.
A little late to answer on I my part but thank you, then.
