Is Omikron running reasonably well for you? I've heard things about this game on new machines.
Fine for me, launched immediately. Also has full widescreen support, I'm running it in 1920x1080.
Anyone running this on an ATI card? ATI's drivers don't contain the legacy code needed to run the graphics properly so I'd like to know if GoG has figured out a way around this. Or will it have the same issues? (Blue squares, covering 90% of the screen)

I only ask, because I still have a copy, but would only buy from GoG if it was able to run properly on my computer with an ATI graphics card.

I have an ATI card, I started a new game and didn't get the issue you speak of (the blue squares), looked fine/normal

Awesome!!

How's the performance? With my old physical copy I found it's rather unplayable as soon as you enter 'inventory mode', I can't move items and I think the game will freeze if I stay to long in it.
Been playing around with it now for 20 minutes or so and only came across an issue with Windows mouse pointer in the center of the screen and viewable at all times. Set compatability to XP SP3 and it has now dissapeared.

Issue with black / missing / blocky textures was that the game uses a 24 bit frame buffer which is no longer supported in latest drivers for Nvidia and ATI cards. GOG have fixed this though and it looks amazing. Running with everything maxxed out and 1920x1080 resolution, the city is vibrant and alive. I could never run it in this way back in the day having to knock settings back to get it to run, it was a system hog back then!

No crashes in the inventory screen at all and easy to navigate. Map is working fine showing everything that is needed like Kayls appartment at the beginning and also your position and a red cone showing the way you are facing.

Credit where it is due to GOG, they have fixed the game and brought it back to the masses, going to be lost to this one over the coming weeks like I was with Anachronox when it came out.

Not forgetting I am not very far into Blade of Darkness, Inquisitor and Back to the Future presently either. Past few weeks has been a case of throw my money at the screen :)
Is it possible to choose 32-bits color ? I read you can only select 16-bits, dunno if the original game had this limitation.

No it's not. It's an ati zbuffer issue, that they aren't interested in fixing because it only effects the older dx interfaces, and only when the zbuffer is used in a specific sort of way. Crimson skies and one of the mechwarrior games (3, iirc) are affected by the same bug.

32 bit colour support is added by GOG's patch, and is on by default. (Aside from when active subtitles are present on the screen, iirc, when it'll drop back to 16 for a few seconds.)

Also fixed by the GOG patch, albeit at the cost of the static effect on some menus. (There's a config option you can use to turn it back on if you want to see it, and you happen to like slideshows.)

The dreaded Zbuffer.... yes im ditching ATI graphics because of there refusal to support older methods... ATI used to be the one to get for legacy gaming but now Nvidia is supporting so much more :/

I get 16 bpp no matter what resolution I cycle through in the video options. Is it still 32bit though because of the GOG patch?

Yup, the options will say 16, but you end up getting 32.

Thanks for the info. Do you mind if I ask, you're the same guy who did the Dungeon Keeper 2 ATI patch too right? Did GOG actually hire you to do that or some such?
I played the original around the time it came out on a Windows 98 machine with Riva TNT2, so I have a few points to "complain" about in the GOG release:

* When you enter a building, like a shop, and you activate the door, you should be able to see "inside" the building, but instead you see a weird mix of interior and outside graphics. Seems like a streaming/loading problem?

* Outside, in the distance, you should not see solid blue fog

* In police HQ, the fog is meant to be greenish, but there's lots of blue... fog. Which shouldn't be there.

* The color banding "filter" sometimes fails and color banding suddenly appears on single objects

Sure, the game is certainly playable, but these things distract from the atmosphere, and Omikron is mostly about that.

I think this can be solved by going to video settings and increasing view distance from far to very far, however a performance hit will occur.
No, I'm not talking about common fog here, it's more of a garish Bluescreen type color.
I attached two screenshots, they also show the problem with entering a building.
