After the intro movie, main menu appears but I am unable to start a new game, enter options or even quit through pressing enter, space etc(literally I tried the whole keyboard). How can I solve this problem?

Use the w and s keys to scroll up and down, the e key to select.

I can scroll up and down with arrows but not with w/s. Only hitting space gives some kind of selection sound but then again nothing happens.

So basically I am stuck at the menu whenever I open the game. I have tried several compatibility choices to no avail.

Remove any game controllers before starting the game. Use the arrow keys to navigate the menu. Your good to go :) You can change the keyboard assignments from the options menu.
