For those who had the game not wanting to launch issue: Has anyone figured out how to get the game to run? Is there a trick, toggle, junk food sacrifice that will get it to run?

ETA: Repair didn't work either.

Same issue here. Just purchased tonight and won't launch.

I also can't get it to launch. I updated GOG, downloaded the patches, restarted the computer , stood on my head in a corner for five minutes... and still nothing.
Will someone contact us when and if they get a fix????

Softsnow ... where did you find patches? Asking because standing on my head is not an option for me. :)

If you click on library, all your games show up. Obduction has a tag that says installed, move the cursor on it and a drop down menu shows up. click on 'backups and goodies'. I'm not exactly sure if those are necessary or not, but I downloaded them anyway.

Found them. Thanks!
I uninstalled everything, including GOG Galaxy, and reinstalled game and patches and goodies with the regular GOG downloader. Still won't launch. I don't want to play "online" but rather directly from the computer. I have a 64 bit ready Windows 7 system with 1.8G AMD Athlon processor, 128Kb primary mem cache and 512 Kb secondary memory cache. 159.89 GB with 85.38 GB free. NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430.

Never had issues with all the other Myst games downloaded with old GOG downloader. Maybe I should have d/l'd direct from the developer at full price? I'll contact the GOG support team to see if they can help. If not, will be requesting refund.

Thanks for the info and assist!
Same issue here...and just as I was getting hooked on the game :(

Suddenly won't launch. I get some wierd error message that ends with the line "CreateProcess() returned 2."

My computer/Windows is fully updated, and the game version is current. Sent a report to support yesterday and still waiting to hear back.

I have the same problem: the game won't launch from my HP Omen computer, either from the GOG platform or directly from C:\prgogram files\...\Obduction. It runs without problem on my HP Probook laptop (with a far weaker CPU).
Does nobody have any idea what could cause this? It seems since 2019 no reasonable answer has been forthcoming....

Same here: won't start on new PC.
Ok, so here's what I've found with limited research.

I have a newer computer that I just built. Here are the specs just so you can eliminate those things in your system.

MB: ASUS ROG Strix X690-A Gaming WiFi D4 LGA1700 (Intel 12th Gen CPU)
CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K up to 5GHz Unlocked
DIMM's: Corsair Vengence 16GBx2 total 32GB
OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit (up to date)
The entire system is 64bit

OK, I entered the Obduction upgrade path @ v1.7.2. This version ran on my old Windows 7 64bit system and it runs on my new system mentioned above, though I can't say if it'll crash or not at some particular stage in the game. I just saw that it loaded and found myself walking in the forest, which is where you first find yourself in the game.

I also have several patch's from v1.7.2 to v1.8.4.1-ssl but I've only recently tried the two full install versions I have, which are v1.7.2 and v1.8.4.1.

I'm pretty sure that I used at least a couple of the patch's from v1.7.2 upwards, but it was so long ago, (2019), yep at my age that's a long time ago, ;-) such that I can't remember exactly which ones.

Anyway, v1.8.4.1 will not run, while v1.7.2 will. I tried both today, "Thursday June 23 2022."

The funny thing, at least from my perspective, is that GoG currently only offers v1.8.4.1-ssl.

While this is purely conjecture on my part, based solely upon a logical conclusion, taking all valid premises into account, I'd say either v1.8.4.1 is bad or will only run while an internet connection is active. I've not tried the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) port 443, version yet because I won't do online games, ever!

No, I won't give you copies of my working full version or any of the incremental patch's, not to be mean or all high and mighty, but all of our contracts are between ourselves and GoG. If you paid for the "Working Game" GoG is who you need to talk to.

I don't see why GoG doesn't leave the older versions on their site for just this reason.

I hope this helped all you guys/gals/others!

Peace and happy gaming!
