Well, this is disappointing. Guess I'll just return it and see if they come out with a less buggy version later.

Have you tried contacting support@cyan.com (send a copy of your system's dxdiag report attached to the email)?

My system has an EVGA GeForce GTX 750 ti and I got the same message until I downloaded and installed updated graphics drivers from nvidia. Now the game runs fine with the exception of a bit of audio distortion.
I installed Obduction yesterday and am getting the exact same error message. Has anyone found a solution yet? I will try updating my drivers although I believe they are already current. I am running on a laptop and I know driver updates sometimes take longer to reach laptops. Yes, it's a laptop, but it's an ASUS Republic of Gamers system and should be quite capable of running Obduction. I would really like to play this one and hope this is fixed soon!

ETA: I have updated my graphics drivers. Still getting the exact same error.

ETA again: My previous graphics driver update was per the ASUS RoG website. With some trepidation, I went ahead and installed the latest from the NVidia website. Success! Well, at least I can start the game and see the menu. Good luck to everyone!

Always download drivers from the manufacturer of your card--not a third party. I don't understand the "trepidation" remark...;) If nVidia makes your card--which they do (EVGA just puts stickers and relabeling on what they purchase from nVidia for resale)--latest drivers will always be found @ nVidia. Chances are they will be a more up-to-date version than many third-party drivers which either are customized to run on slightly different hardware (in your case) or what is much more common, they are based on an earlier driver and may be more than one revision behind the latest nVidia driver. Same is true with AMD--no matter what brand of AMD GPU is purchased, the latest drivers will come from AMD, direct.
The solution I worked out yesterday:

Get the newest driver from Nvidia, like 380.xx or newer.

I used to have a 320.xx driver for my GTX760 and it gave "LowLevelFatalError" upon launching the game.

Of course you need other necessary runtimes (like DX and .Net 4.0)
