If you would like to purchase 'Nuclear Throne', I would recommend it, because it's a great game. However, I simply cannot recommend getting the GOG version because it's not updated in line with other platforms.

This game released on December 5th, 2015, in concordance with Update #96. Since then, two updates have come out ( and [url=http://steamcommunity.com/games/nuclearthrone/announcements/detail/870689050348007756]#98), but the GOG version has yet to receive a single patch, still sitting at version 'gog-1' in the Galaxy backup menu.

It seems as if the developers are completely neglecting their GOG distribution, and it makes me wonder if this note on the game's store page here at GOG... ...is actually true. On the game's official website, GOG isn't even listed listed or linked under the vendors (only Steam and Humble Store links are provided). This neglect is also consistent with Vlambeer's handling of their previous GOG release of Luftrausers, which has not received a patch to its latest version, either.

I'm a big fan of both GOG and Vlambeer. Sadly, however, I can't say that the two have mixed well.

Is this still the case?

I was looking into buying this game but luckily I noticed this before I did.

I always prefer to get my games here when they are available both here and on Steam but I can't support this at all.
I could live without challenges but when patches are being released on other platforms and not here I simply cannot ignore it.

No purchase then. Are you sure it doesn't have Update 97, though? The game only released in January and the patch was on the 15th of December so I would asssume it is included and if it is not then it is even sadder.
But sure, it still doesn't change the fact the patch 98 isn't here at all and it is more than month since it was released.

I think I will also let support or some blue know that they are losing sale here.

Did you end up talking to support at all? I'd really like to buy the game too, but not if I have to keep second-guessing myself.

I wish we could at least get an update on this. I love Nuclear Throne, but they sold the game here with the promise of those features being added in the future. If it turns out that it's not happening, then that's false advertisement. I honestly don't mind when things like this get delayed, stuff happens, but leaving us in the dark about it is wrong. If nothing else, they should tell us if they're still working on it.

Or if they say there won't be any more updates, we could at least wait for a sale on some other platform and rebuy it there. Not what was intended, but ho-hum.

Grab the Humble Store version. It's DRM-free, has Win/Mac/Linux support, and includes the Steam key.

Why haven't the newer builds come to GOG? The actual work of making it compatible with the installer is done by GOG, so why haven't the developers sent in the newer files?

Agreed, but it's not just GOG - I bought Nuclear Throne on PS4 and nearly 7 months later it's stil "V1.00" with some nasty bugs that have been there since day one left completely unaddressed. Vlambeer didn't bother updating Luftrausers on PS3 or GOG, either.

It seems that, with some devs, the Steam forums are the only voices they bother listening to and the only customers they give a flying [EXPLETIVE] about. The Steam forumites shout louder, I guess, and have more visibility - so certain devs rush to serve them while purchasers on other platforms get completely ignored.

I'm also done with Vlambeer. I've been bitten twice already by their "fire and forget" attitude to non-Steam purchasers. They need to realise that every platform they sell their wares on deserves the same level of service. If you can't be bothered to support non-Steam platforms, don't release your damn games on them. We all paid the same money for your product, after all.

In a lenghty announcement post from August 8th, Rami Ismail promises that update 99 will be coming to GOG. I quote the key part below.

Not sure if he's referring to them sending their build to GOG today or tomorrow, and GOG having to process it, or if it is launching at that time, but GOG getting an update at all is unexpected.

The old v1.00 ain't bad. But, the updated version on Humble Store isn't as punishing in its difficulty. I've been playing the Linux version on Mint 17.3 64 bit, and it's not as brutal. And, yes, I appreciate the slightly easier difficulty.
