dtgreene: Try disabling Mockingboard support.

If you're playing on an Apple 2GS, there's a settings menu that can be accessed (I don't remember how, as it's been so long) that allows you to enable or disable it. Also, on any physical Apple 2 family computer, if there's a Mockingboard installed, you could just remove it, or find one that doesn't have the card.

If you're using an emulator, you can check the settings for an option to disable Mockingboard support. I note that MAME's default Apple 2GS config doesn't enable this. (Don't know about MAME's regular Apple 2.)

I don't know whether there's a way to do so in game, without changing the setting. (I believe the Ultima series uses the 'V' key, and Nox Archaist's basic interface clearly resembles Ultima 5's, so you could try that, or it might be some other key.)
