Ever since the Outlaw patch, I've noticed transmission tower codes changed to observatory-type codes.

For example, the old transmission code might have been a numerical sequence something like (not exactly like)
3 - 4 - 7 - 11 - 18 - [insert answer] ... 29 ... in this case, the next number is the sum of the preceding two numbers

Observatory codes are simple number sequence rearrangements similar to
1234 - 4123 - 3412 - [insert answer] ... 2341 ... in this case, the next number takes the last digit of the previous number and places it in front of the other three digits

Do I possibly have a corrupt save file or does this occur with everyone else, too? For the record, I did repair my installation and the puzzle type change still occurs.

One of my favorite activities is hunting down crashed and abandoned ships, and the transmission tower codes provided a mental challenge to figure out the numerical sequence. The observatory code puzzle is relatively mindless and diminishes part of the joy of the hunt.
They're working okay here. The picture is from today, on my oldest normal mode save. Was disappointed that the sequence was so easy, though. ;-)

My favorite observatory code puzzle is still: 1212 - 2121 - 1212 - [????]. I mean, come on guys!

Thanks for the confirmation. I uninstalled and performed a clean install just in case (but with a character save file backup). Now I just need to find a working transmission tower to see if that fixed the issue.
I finally found another transmission tower and the given code puzzle was an observatory-type not the expected numerical sequence.

Not sure if it matters, but I'm playing on Survival mode and with a fresh install from the latest offline files from here at GoG. This outcome is somewhat disappointing.
Just wanted to chime in and mention that I've been playing the current Expedition over the past couple of days, and I've interacted with about 4 or 5 transmission tower terminals, and ALL of that small sample-size had the "math sequence" and none of them had the "transpose the digits" type of puzzle.

Thanks for confirming the issue is most likely on my side. It's just such a strange occurrence and it first started showing up about the same time as the bug-fix patch on the Outlaw release. I can't definitively point to a specific planet or system when this began. I wonder if this behavior is encoded in my save file since I did a clean install and the issue persists.

This is an old save file that has been through many expansions. I only recently started replaying NMS with it to check out the Outlaw release. I will try a new "test" save to see if the issue goes away.

Good news, bad news:

The good news is that the transmission codes returned to their original format with a different saved game.

The bad news is that my previous saved game with extensive travel and achievement milestones is likely the culprit causing the changed transmission tower code behavior.

The good news is that I get a fresh new start unencumbered by past mistakes. Knowing now what I didn't know way back when I started (Atlas Rises? Next? I don't recall), it shouldn't be such a terrible journey. This is also a bit of a double-edged sword in that I know what I had achieved (all quests completed, all recipes acquired, and a huge chunk of each race's vocabulary learned) and it is a significant void to grind and re-fill.

I console myself with the thought that I am not alone ... 16/16/16 ... *kzzzt

New codes = new challenges?

Keeps the game from being boring? What am I missing?

If you find the game boring, don't try to think it will be more fun with any update.
If you don't like it, don't care about it, simple as that.
