... where, despite me prefering snowy and cold ones, and on top of that being a freighter guy, a rainy, green planet with blue water, trying to very much rid itself of me by hammering me with superheated rainstorms burning through my shields, being very eagerly protected by Sentinels trying to kill me on sight, populated with all sorts of odd creatures, located in a star system raged by pirates, quite a long way from the Space Station, makes me drop base ... these are the moments, where I know exactly why I am playing this game :]
I like the snowy ones when I'm starting out, usually I see videos and posts and they all flock to the lush types, but I hear what you're saying about the way this game just seems to get you going in a different direction.

For me, those moments after the "wow there's so much depth and complexity that's hidden and these landscapes are amazing" and all the challenges, are the nostalgic ones, like (and I feel old here) every time I use a portal and imput glyphs my brain hears 'Chevron 1 encoded, chevron 2 ...-snip-... chevron 12 locked', or when I'm seeing new fauna on a new planet, half of them remind me of the hours and hours I spent years ago playing around in Spore creature creator.
I'm easily amused obviously.

Your post inspired me while playing last night. I landed on a paradise planet with superheated rainstorms as well as severely pissed off sentinels. Usually I just find a place where it acknowledges I discovered the planet and move on when I find these extreme sentinel planets. Last night though, I was thinking about your post, so decided 'screw it, I'm going to explore a bit'. Headed out on foot and started scanning flora and fauna. Found a bunch of knowledge stones to add to my Korvax lexicon, found some outposts and trading platforms, and even found a couple monoliths and a crashed starship.

All the while, I was constantly alert for those pissed off sentinels. But you know what? That was a helluva lot of fun. I played almost my entire session on just that planet, when I'd intended on starting the farming quests (I've left that far too long) and maybe continuing the 16/16 quest line as well.

Oh, and I also fragged a few sentinels and a walker. Because they're not the only ones pissed off, you know?
