Looks like Steam is offering refunds (doesnt matter how many hours you played) for No Mans Sky

Would like to know if GOG is going to do the same.

I would request a refund immediately!

PS looks like i cant post links? Well, there is a thread over at reddit pcmasterrace, look it up please.

Really?

I've been agitating for less blatant misinformation on the entire "may require agreeing to 3rd party user-agreement. And also might perhaps force you to make a Uplay account. And then run Uplay alongside steam. Perhaps. Just saying" - thing for yonks. They finally folded the first time after somewhat official threats for lawsuit. And put up that tiny line on the store-page.

Valve still also sell your information to 3rd parties. They lost personal data on a scale that makes the Sony hack look trivial. Where Sony then ended up paying a large fine for negligence leading to the loss of personal data in the UK. They denied the importance of that and still blame hackers. But they lost the case in court.

When Valve got in the same problem, they dissolved the EU-office (their postbox) in Lichtenstein, and would forgo the favorable tax-rules for the entire EU region to escape the potential issues of 1. criminal blame for losing personal information. And 2. to escape the bill, the very small one, of upgrading their system to something acceptable. And 3. the potential loss of and public knowledge of the specifics of how they sell "depersonalized" data to advertisers.

This is connected to the "one-click purchases" system they have in Steam where they save your credit-card data on their actual server, rather than that you allow Steam to issue repeated purchases to your account. The reason for why they've chosen this is completely obscure, and Valve will not answer any questions.

But they roll over and issue an extended "refund" for a specific game when reddit blows up about some guys being disappointed with it.

Son of bitch. Bastards. Allbasstards.
I've always favoured companies like GOG because I feel they'd act more ethically and be more customer focused than the larger ones like Valve.

However, this shows that the tables have turned and that I will be looking to purchase from Steam in the future, because they're really looking out for their customers.

GOG - you know NMS is a dodgy product. There have been performance issues, crashing, broken promises, and it has been sold on a heap of misinformed hype. I am hoping you'll move to work with and protect your community too.
I never save my credit card info when making purchases except for Amazon because they force you to keep a credit card on your account.

Yeah, I chose GOG and now I'm paying for it. For what it matters I'll still use GOG when possible. If there's a "no matter the time spent in game refund" on GOG as there is with steam I'd welcome, appreciate and use it.
Why would you think gog track how many hours you play a game? It's not steam here where you spy on everything the user does...

The refund is valid for 30 days if you have downloaded the game and can point out why you should be refunded.
Likely not that hard for this game as it's problems are widespread and known.

Despite my high dislike of Steam, I must say their refund policy is extremely generous and doesn`t quibble. I`ve tested it and they`re true to it. I have even been encouraged to buy some Steam games now because I know they will refund if I ask, within say a month, unlike GOG. It`s a far cry from how draconian they used to be just a couple of years ago. In those days it was harder than pulling a tooth out of a live lion by your bare hands without anaesthetic. I still have crap games from Steam from years ago they refused to refund, even though they had only been bought for a couple of days. I can only assume they feel flush enough with their finances to allow this. I wonder how long it will last?

This is FALSE.

I just requested a refund - and they declined. (over 2hrs played, under a week), OP might have been a special case - steam does say the review refunds on a case-by-case situation.

This was from Steam? Hmmm... perhaps they`re pulling back now because too many people are taking advantage of it. Knew it couldn`t last long.
This game was a pack of lies from the beginning, everything they said was a lie. Less than 10% of what we were told was in this game was there. This is NOT the game from the trailers, hype or anything else. We were sold a rotten lemon....

Also looking for an answer from GoG. Will they be offering refunds?
I gotta admit, I've usually just accepted it whenever I´ve made a bad purchase in the past and I've never asked for a refund in my life... But even I, this time, am looking for GOG to offer one.

I submitted for a refund and added link to steam and other giving refunds.... I hope to get a refund we will see what happens...
It is interesting that most of the posts in this thread about 'getting a refund' (either from Steam or from GOG) are from very new posters.

I think it is great that Steam now offers refunds (it was not that long ago when they did not), and that might have been because GOG set up their 30 day return policy first?

Whatever the issues, if you are part of that vocal group that feel lied to about NMS, both Steam and GOG have been giving refunds for NMS. I suggest you get on with submitting your support tickets then you can move on from the tragic situation you find yourself in.

The rest of us can then wait on patches/fixes, more content and off course the mods to make NMS a better game.

Edit: I am not saying there are no problems with NMS (PS4 or PC version), just much of the 'noise' around the internet about these issues seems deliberately inflammatory. Have we had bad game releases in the past? Sure. Will we get bad game releases in the future? Sure.

On a scale of the real problems in peoples lives, these things should be put into perspective a bit more than the current trend maybe?

If you can not do that, then just get your refund and move on in your life :)

GOG do refunds within 30 days of purchase:
https://www.gog.com/support/support_view/30_day_money_back_guarantee_faq#en

It is for games that you cannot get working where the system meets the minimum requirements. The above link notes a process where you raise a ticket, support will attempt to get the game running and if it does not work out, they will offer a refund.
