I was talking in more of the general sense of why GOG's refund policy is the way it is. Not specifically this game. This might be true for NMS. But for the vast majority it is not.

I have to say that's an excellent refund policy. How ironic that it's for a store full of EA crap. It feels like a Twilight Zone twist ending.

I kid you not, every time I have seen this happen -- and I've seen it a lot -- the people that uninstall, rage quit, gripe on forums and leave come back when the game adds new things. Admittedly there was a lot of Sean Murray caving to pressure and showing things that were in-house and not for the masses. And admittedly a lot of people are having issues with bugs and crashes ( I oddly do not and Steam causes my computer to lock up for no reason ) but they're working on those. It sucks OP can't get it to work, but spewing the same hate-rant everyone knows just puts OP in the same excrement creek as the rest.

As for GoG, OP can't get it to work, they should refund it, that's part of their deal, end of story. Hoever I bet they get a lot of people claiming it doesn't work when indeed it has. So can you fault them for being cautious?

You should keep that in mind for sure. Personally I buy from GOG because it is DRM free. After dealing with tacked on DRM in addition to Steam DRM like GFWL and other such DRM. I had enough. I like to collect games and I want these games to always be playable (technology permitting of course).

If Steam was the only DRM, I wouldn't have issue with it. But between Denuvo and AAA developers jumping ship to form there own clients, I got a feeling within 5 to 10 years Steam will mostly be indie games and nothing more. At the point GOG is not much different, except GOG will still be releasing functional old games like they do now.

Agreed, I can't fault them at all. This seems to have snowballed into some big thing against this game, when personally, I don't feel it's a bad game. Could have been more yes, but still not a bad game.

Your not alone in this way of thinking, so I can't fault you there. A lot of newer DRM schemes are getting better or DRM is just not used anymore, and GOG has lot to do with that. Denuvo however is changing the game again.

Be thankful you never owned a game that was tied to a server that stopped working as soon as the server was turned off, or had limited installs which counted against your install limit every time you changed your hardware. If that company was no longer in business, good luck playing that game ever again.

Yes, it is very much false, generally speaking. Valve would have to have its head examined to come out with a 2-hour refund policy (moving from no refund policy at all--in response to GOG's 30-day technical support refund policy)--and then simply forget it and refund everybody's money regardless. The only time I've ever seen this policy broken at Steam is when the game clearly and unambiguously stinks upon release and clearly and unambiguously is not the game that was advertised. (Batman for PC? rings a bell but can't recall the specifics.)

I don't think NMS would qualify for that kind of refund at Steam. People have to spend their money intelligently, and that means not counting on special refund policies simply because you don't like the game that you just bought on pre-order for $60. It also means that you do not pre-order games at 100% MSRP before you read the first review--and have some means to make an intelligent buying decision. You know, I could have some sympathy for pre-orders that were made at 50% OFF MSRP, for instance. That might make some sense even though you are still buying the game blind.

Good sense means, basically, that if you cannot afford to lose $60 when pre-ordering a game you do not even know if you will like and want to keep, you have no business spending that money at all. What's the old saying?--"A fool and his money are soon parted"...? Worth remembering. Also "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" and so on--meaning if you *don't* pre-order games blind then you never have to worry about securing refunds, do you?

I'll take it a step further - they are SO strict on this rule that I would be inclind to believe that all mail under that topic is auto responded to - here is a typical response to one requesting a refund on NMS:

Now I have no issues with that - but in my "comments" I specificaly stated that I do not want a refund, but instead have it transfered to my son's account.

So I concluded that my email was simply auto-replied with no refunds. Otherwise a HUMAN would have read it and acted accordingly.
