well, its been 2 weeks since nms stopped working, it wont launch. i sent a support request to hello games and they have completely ignored me.

i was fine with the game...even with its faults and not being what they advertised...that didnt bother me...i like it.

but im starting to get pretty pissed now.
Have you tried the reddit threads? direct communication from Hello Games is worse even than from Frontier (the guys behind Elite: Dangerous), and that takes some doing.

Do you want to post all your details here even, beyond what you have already to see if someone here can help more?

I'm trying to recall if i ever had a game that did that to me, suddenly stop working, and the only thing that comes to mind is after i had done some windows updates and i think it removed an older version of some .NET stuff and the new version broke a utility i used to launch a game.

So to me i'd be looking to see what had changed at my end around the time it stopped working. If you want to get technical and post lots of details just shoot, you might get an answer here (or on reddit?).

What version were you on?
I've heard some people say 1.09 stuff'd it for them, so I've stuck to 1.07 thus far...
eh...im pretty sure this is going to require some help from someone at hello games. i have a ton of dmp files...but i have no clue what to do with them.

i was on 1.09 and it was working...then it wasnt.

i didnt update anything, i didnt change anything...nothing...thats why this is so frustrating.

no to mention i even did a system restore to a time i knew it worked and it still didnt work. i rolled it back...i uninstalled it and didnt update it, ive rolled back and reinstalled my video drivers...nothing works.

its behaving like it did when it first came out...and wouldnt start because of my amd cpu....i try to start it...and it crashes at the splash screen. event viewer just says nms caused a fault in ntdll.dll...which isnt helpful at all.

if any of you know how to read and interpret a dmp file...id be grateful for you to check it out...i have plenty of them.
won't know what to do with the dump files to be honest, but someone might? Have you tried just using the base 1.07 version, which i think it still the main download of NMS from GOG currently? You might have to re-download it again to be sure?

yes...i rolled it back...to 1.07...1.09 is the current version though.

i forgot to mention i also removed all mods to rule those out. and i also tried running it with my antivirus and firewall off...again not because i thought that they had anything to do with it...but just to rule them out.

what i did was completely uninstall the game...then i reinstalled it and tried to start each version...none of them will run, and they all crash the exact same way.
Did you remember to uninstall all parts of it, as in check in all the places it puts stuff? Sometimes a games uninstaller leaves stuff. As far as i know the game will be installed in the main path you choose, but where ever you put that it will always install the save game info in C:\Users\(your user profile name)\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames.

It might be handy to run CCleaner and do a registry clean to remove all references to NMS as well. In general i don't use a reg cleaner except after uninstalling something, as there are often remnants left in the registry.
lol...are they serious? this is a joke right?

so two weeks of silence and then today i get this:

"Hello,

We’ve recently fixed a number of issues which cause crashes during start up, we recommend getting the latest update and trying again.

For PC users please note that unsupported CPUs and GPUs often fail at this point, so if you are still having trouble please make sure your PC meets the minimum specification requirements.
The minimum specs are listed here; http://www.no-mans-sky.com/support/

Also (we really don’t mean to point out the obvious here) we’ve had a number of players who didn’t know they had to press and hold the E key on PC or the Square button on PS4 to get past the white screen.

Please try it out, and get back to us if you are still having problems.

We’ve now released a number of patches for both PC and PS4, and hopefully they really improve the experience for everybody. As you’ll see from the patch notes below, it’s been a huge amount of work for a small team. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

See below for notes on all recent patches!
http://www.no-mans-sky.com/log/

Expect at least one more major update soon.

We really appreciate your patience and understanding.

Thanks,
Hello Games"

they "recently" fixed some issues? really?

and i know this is a canned response, but why does it take 2 weeks to get a canned response? they obviously didnt read my email or look at the files i sent them...that THEY requested.

im getting more and more sick of this shit every day. i was on their side for a while...but this is out of control.
chaosWyrM, I agree with you with how insulting the response was, if they are not going to properly review the information they request from people they should not bother asking for it.

Anyone who thinks they are too busy to respond to individuals with a non generic reply is not taking into account the sheer number of games they sold, for the price they charged, I do not see why they could not have hired someone to at least made people feel like the efforts in following the information requests did not fall into dead ears.

I have mellowed considerably since the first month of this games release but I must say your anger and disappointment is normal for the treatment we have received.

Two weeks for the generic reply is just sad for a company that sold so many games and bragged about it, yes they are a small indy company but they just do not seem to want to reply to anyone with anything specific. My thinking is they have been advised to avoid any and all admittance of problems by a lawyer, just in case they do get sued.

As people have said, several years down the road this game may be so heavily modded it will be a wonder to behold but it would be nice to hear more info directly from Hellogames long before that and it would be abominable for them to come forward and look for bragging rights if others in their own time not on a paycheck made their game better.
And they did say at some point they were hiring/expanding the team to more quickly deal with things, so it is a bit poor their communication in general is often not super helpful (but we do know atleast from the message above another update should be here soon!).

I suspect, just looking at the trend around NMS in general, that they are simply swamped with a combination of people just sending emails to waste their time, people sending them hate emails disguised as tech help (so they have to sort through legitimate ones and the fake ones) and various other things that would fit into the hate-response to NMS around the internet in general.

My recommendation for those that have the game currently and are not enjoying it (just don't like it as it currently is, or can't get it to function) is maybe to put it down for a few months so you don't just become full on angry like the vast horde out in internet land.

Pretty sucky to have to do this, but IF you really want to enjoy this game, but just can't currently it might be the best bet for the long run. I've done this with other games myself (Elite: Dangerous for example) and as we have so many games to choose to play i find it best to focus on those that i enjoy and give others i have time to 'mature'.

It seems fairly certain that Hello Games are going to carry on fixing/improving the game, and mods are certainly going to do that, so looking forward it should be a better game for everyone at some point?

Winter coming here, soon. I wanted to spend cold nights exploring a procedural galaxy. Instead I am gouging my eyes out, in tech/customer support hell. I regret buying this nightmare. I should have just bought Mass Effect. It got worms right.

Mass Effect is a whole different game, but if you haven't bought it and played it, I highly recommend it. I replayed each of them at least twice. It will absolutely make you forget about NMS, that's for sure.
As of right now, I'm deeply indulged in Star Trek Online. I think it's a fantastic game, considering its price.

Got that SciFi itch, NMS did not cure me. Are Klingons still the only pvp? I tried Planetside 2, for a bit, but it was all huge guilds requesting machima contracts, to see any active skirmishes. So I avoid the online scene. How many STO toons can you have on 1 acct? I was really shocked, I could not see or name my NMS toon. I am trying to get an old preCU disk of SWG, to play on nonSony hobbyist run servers. Take care. Bye. birdbatscuba

And nothing is stopping you getting Mass Effect is it?

See this is where, for the first time ever in my on-line posting lifetime (about 20 years!), the over the top bandwagon hate-on-NMS really makes me want to put people on ignore. First world problems acting like this game ruined your life is a lie, and actual full on real lie, rather than the made up meme 'Sean Lies!' ;)

Seriously if you have bought this game and feel upset, go play another game.

If you want to tell the whole world about that and how you can't afford another game because NMS was sooooo expensive, then excuse me while i get my fiddle for you to spill your sob story about your 'poverty'. You are poor and play computer games? right.

Hate for the sake of it, that is what these posts are and when i get to the bottom of a posters 'issues' about the game (i often try to help you know) and work out they are just here to be a hater for the hell of it, i stop reading their posts and responding to them.

There are several titles suitable for scratching a SciFi itch and looks like you've already found some notable ones.

Winter coming here, soon. I wanted to spend cold nights exploring a procedural galaxy.
Exploring a procedural galaxy as main game mechanic is a different matter.
There are still some titles to choose from, but all of them come with big trade offs.

Take care. Bye
Goodbye and good luck.
Just make sure you come back to check NMS from time to time: things are slowly improving and since you've already put 60$ on it...
