I got the patch to 2.62 a couple of weeks and installed it. Everything seemed to be working fine but I realised yesterday that the photo save function is not actually saving anything. The process all looks correct and the on screen message tells me where they are being saved to but checking that folder reveals no new pictures! I'm running NMS on a Win7 offline machine. Anyone else having this issue?

No problems for me, I use the in-game Quikmenu and its photo mode to take pictures, works all the time. Pictures will be saved in your 'Images' folder in Windows, the folder name is No Man^s Sky.

I've found it's been an ongoing issue with Galaxy. If I use F12, it takes the photo and I immediately get a message that it failed to save. I get nothing in the folder. This has been happening for months over several updates and iterations of the Galaxy client.

This might be a long shot, but have you checked whether the relevant folders are write-protected (read-only) ?

It also could be a your anti-virus software. I had that problem with Acronis a while back. All indications within NMS were that the pictures were being saved; they were not. Acronis did not produce an even log that it had blocked saving the pictures, nor did it display an alert, nor were they in the quarantine folder. They just went *poof*. Shortly after I figured out what was happening, Acronis also went *poof*.

Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry XenonS, TerriblePurpose, DysDaemoN and dashiichi - every time I was on the net I forgot to check the forum! Living in Australia I'm use to most people in forums being in different time zones so I don't expect a response straight away - normally though I remember to check the next day. I do appreciate the suggestions and comments. The folder and contents are not locked.

I don't use Galaxy because I play offline given that I don't have a broadband connection at home - to go onto the net like now I use my phone as a usb tether. I first got NMS about 6 months after the original release (a different game back then!) and never had issues with the photo thing before (apart from one brief period where all pictures came out as a blank magenta pic) It's still failing to save the images but it isn't as though it is vital to the game play. If I'm doing a job where I need to take a photo on a desert planet the game recognises I've taken the pic even if it doesn't save it in the folder. I'll just live with it for the moment and see what happens with the next update/patch.

So, did you find your picture folder in Windows? There should be a 'No Mans Sky' folder in it will all the picutres you've taken in Photo Mode in the game. It should be located in

Users\[YOUR ACCOUNT NAME]Pictures\No Mans Sky

All pictures are saved in *.png format.

I hope you'll eventually get to the bottom of this. In the meantime you could rely on the built-into-windows Snipping Tool for your screenshot needs (type snip in the search bar), assuming you're also playing in borderless mode. Might not be the same but it does afford extra flexibility, including the ability to get shots of interface elements, such as the inventory screen.

I just got the 3.01 update. Much to my disappointment it still isn't saving pictures despite the fact that the game tells me it just saved a picture. There are some anomalies though. The described path says Users/Bernard/Pictures/No Mans Sky but the actual path is Users/Bernard/My Pictures/No Mans Sky I tried adding a folder called Pictures but it won't do it. Basically Windows sees the two folder names as identical. Win7 won't let me change the folder name from My Pictures to Pictures either. The other issue is that every folder in the Users/Bernard area is read-only. This isn't something I've ever messed with so I can only assume it was always like that but I did uncheck the read only and hit the apply button on the My Pictures folder and the No Mans Sky folder but it doesn't stick. The next time I look they are marked as read only again.

I run NMS on my stand alone Win7 desktop because it has a bigger monitor and is connected to better audio than my Win10 laptop but I note that Win 10 calls the folder Pictures not My Pictures. I really don't want to put NMS on my laptop.

Prior to installing the 2.62 NMS update in mid August the picture save thing worked fine. Is there an ini or xml type file I can edit to direct the pics to a path of my own choosing? Tried looking but haven't found such a thing.

I can absolutely understand Avast being protective about applications, particularly those with active internet connections, that are writing files to the system. That would be fine if Avast notified the user or even simply made a log entry in the protection log. But to block the writes and do it silently is A Bad Thing.
