When I left click to take a photo in photo mode, NMS says photo is saved in screenshot folder. However, when I go there, no photos are there. How do I fix this?

I don't have an answer, just chiming in to say that you're not the only one this happens to. I was able to save photo mode screen shots up until about the time Atlas Rises was released; none since. I do get the note that it was saved to the proper folder, and that folder does exist, just don't get the picture.

What I have done is to enable capture via the Nvidia overlay. It doesn't seem to affect game play so I've given up figuring out how to make the in-game save work. A nice benny is that the Nvidia overlay will also capture the video stream, so there's that.
screenshots are being saved to.

UserName/My Documents/Gog Galaxy/Screenshots/No Man's Sky

that is for the f10 or f12 i think.

photomode is going to

UserName/My Pictures/No Man's Sky

Should be F12. I do get the GOG overlay when pressing Shift-Tab. Do not get the Ctrl-Shift-Tab FPS display nor the F12 screenshot.

It used to work. The last F12 screenshot has a time stamp of June 2017. The last photomode is from July 2017.

It's possibly a side effect of using the Nvidia overlay. I'm guessing that Nvidia "hooks the interrupt" (as we used to say back in the DOS 3.2 days) and doesn't chain it on to the other screen capture functions.
You don't have to be in "Photo Mode" foe F12 to work. I use F12 for another program and NMS will take a screenshot if it's running.

I cannot confirm this, quite the contrary: In 1.58, I just did a mission where I had to take a photo of a water creature. I did so, the mission was a success ... and the photo is still in my screenshot save place which is:

C:\Users\[USER]\Pictures\No Mans Sky

However, I didn't use F12 but I went in the quickmenu (x) > Photo mode > left mouse to take photo.

AHA! or Eurika or something. The issue on my end was almost certainly an antivirus program (Avast) blocking the screenshots.

A recent update to Avast appeared to cause application and startup/shutdown hangs on two different PCs so I gave it the old heave ho. And now, oddly enough, the quickmenu Photo Mode LMB captures as well as the F12 captures both work like they're supposed to.

Great replies guys, thanks.
