Velgor: I just played a Nexus mission in the new Origins update. I landed on a planet with bio-luminescent flora. It was beautiful!
I tried posting the release notes but there are too large. Finally broke these into two parts and that still required some arm wrestling with the GOG forum server(s).

I also completed a daily quicksilver and noted that all previously discovered fauna was now "extinct" and there were some new lifeforms mixed in with old styles.

Also made my first black market purchase from the Scrap Dealer.

The graphics changes are a great enhancement.

Yeah, I saw the extinct animals list and got a black market multi-tool part. Pretty cool. Some really great improvements and makes me enjoy the game once more. I really like how the landscapes look better with more features and transitions between surfaces. I also saw some shooting stars on my home world. Nice.

Nerfing the economy is not as severe as I thought it would be.
I went to upgrade my Alien style Multi-tool to S Class from A (love this addition, at last we can have the style of multi-tool we want expanded), and then decided to expand the amount of slots, needed 10 million credits for the last one and was a bit short, so tried cashing in all the cobalt on my starship in a new system .. sold it all for 17 million, then bought it all back for 4 million. So cobalt at least has not been affected much by this update, or maybe if I were to start a new game entirely it might be different, will have to see.
No more Portal interference? That kind of takes the fun out of searching for wild base computers to chain through the galaxies. :-(

Might also open up the mission planets to the construction of a bazillion new bases.
My homeplanet now looks like crud, all the flora has gone, it's supposed to be a verdant planet but there's not a single tree on it since the origins update, now it's just an ugly purple rock covered in grass, also fauna is still not spawning properly.

Time to uninstall I think, this game isn't getting any better, such a disapointment.

Mission planets were already plagued with a bazillion of bases, since Portal Interference was so easy to do away with: have a group member go through portal and warp to them from anomaly, without going through the portal yourself.

If anything, its removal will improve the ability of players not using multi-player to travel around, and remove a long-standing hassle from the rest.

Also, whether searching for wild base computers to advance quickly though galaxies was fun, compared to simply traveling to a system near the core via portal, is clearly subjective.

Suggest that you might wait a day or two. There is a patch already on Experimental "•Fixed a rare issue that caused some planets to change or move their terrain. This issue affects only a subset of weird and dead planets in non-yellow stars, and only in some galaxies. The planets have been restored to their correct, pre-Origins state." Not sure if you are in a system or galaxy that fits this patch.

The patch came out too late for GOG due to time zone differences. It is possible that for GOG it might just go straight to main instead of being Experimental which has sometimes happened in the past.

Have you tried leaving the system and returning, or reloading the game? I had a simple underwater base lose a couple rooms and Nautalon exocraft pad. I returned to my freighter and then back down to the base. When I got back, the base had reappeared as it had been. Perhaps the same may happen for your planet.
Thanks for the replies folks but I think I'm just done with this game. I've been here since release and I'm just sick of playing something that seems to be in a constant state of early access, every time the game reaches a state where I'm enjoying playing it they release an update which wrecks everything again.

The terrain on my home planet hasn't changed as far as I can tell, my base is still intact and the surrounding landscape doesn't seem to have changed, but whereas before it was a beautiful world teaming with life both flora and fauna ( there were animals everywhere and a wide variety of trees, bushes and other plants), it's now just a barren grass covered rock with a few scruffy weeds here and there, and only a couple of random animals now and again, it's just boring.

I've tried going to other planets and systems and then returning but nothing changes, the other planets I've visited seem to have a similar lack of variety aswell, the new lightning effects also seem kind of rubbish.

Honestly I'm just done, there are bugs in this game such as the non spawning fauna that have remained since the desolation update and they don't seem to be making any effort to fix them, HG just seem to be concentrating on piling more and more content onto these rickety old foundations. I can see why they called it desolation now ... :p

so nah I'm out, I've already uninstalled the game, I've got a huge backlog of games I haven't even tried yet, time to give them a go I think.

Sean Murray gave a video conference interview for ign ..

https://www.ign.com/articles/no-mans-sky-origins-update-release-date-free

.. I think they fully intended to do their best not to mess with peoples bases, but I dont think they can ever guarantee that with this game. Everything being procedurally generated they were bound to have casualties and unforeseen circumstances. There are a few other people on reddit and steam with similar reports, which is what the new patches will be trying to address.

I don't build bases because I always think one of these days a change to the game will have knock on effects, so I just do a wooden base for the first quest to tick all the mission boxes and then concentrate on making my ideal Freighter home for the journey ahead.

I might dabble with bases one day when Hellogames have finished updating / developing the game.

Long term I want a scenic underwater base eventually, glad to see they have made planet generation now capable of producing some very deep oceans because until now even the deepest was not quite deep enough for me.

But really we cant blame Hellogames for wanting to respond to what the majority of the internet has been moaning about for the last three years, as Sean intimated it's always been something they wanted to do but didn't want to upset the community by undoing everyones work / monuments etcetera, or just do the change to get a few more colours.

I think we can expect this update (and a few more patches to the same), to be the last reset switch for more variety content. Edit: Though don't quote me :), nothing is set in stone with procedurally generated games, and Hellogames have proven to be one helluva dedicated company in the longevity of their support and development. For all I know we might be having the same conversation in another three years time.

----------------------

Love the fact that we can now have the ideal Multi-tool. I usually end up getting my ideal aesthetically pleasing tool which has too few slots, so one day it's going to be replaced with something more capable but not so ideal, that has all changed ..

Has anyone else been to one of those old Manufacturing Facilities recently?, if you take the correct action which usually gives you three choices (one of which is to give you a couple of blueprints), there is now a new option which gives you a bit of kit to give you a free slot in your multi-tool. I have an Alien tool which was going to cost 40,000,000 for my next slot .. got it for free instead. It was a Korvax Manufacturing Facility, I dont know at the moment if you can get the same from other race Manufacturing Facilities.

I think this is one of those bits of equipment that the Origins Update notes mentioned but didn't go into detail about.

There are a lot of things I really like about this update. Fauna generation has been great in my experience since the game updated. The changes to the UI making them a bit easier to find is really nice. But the best thing imho is the Clouds / Fog / Atmosphere and Terrain generation, I flew down to one planet through the clouds and into fog and almost immediately nearly slammed into a mountain it was so high. Storms look superb.

Patch 3.01 has gone public

https://www.nomanssky.com/2020/09/origins-patch-3-01/
This update is one of those things where I like everything about, except a list of things that sadly annoy me, such as:

- The UI colour theme is depressing and I really hate looking at it. I really liked the colourful, happy look of the old UI theme. Layout-wise, I don't care, but those colours man... they encourage me to close the game.

- The new visor is very difficult to see through, due to the orange glow on the top and bottom combined with the darker blue of the whole thing. At night there is very little contrast between objects. Also, it still makes that headache inducing white flash when switching to the visor (I once modded that out and the transition looked totally fine without it). I suppose it looks cooler than the previous visor, but that's at the cost of functionality, which I don't think is worth it.

- I am really not a fan of whole planet colour filter concept. Not only is almost always ugly, it takes what would otherwise be an interesting visual experience and makes it boring, depressing, and generally the opposite of fun. Maybe save that kind of thing for periodic storms or super rare planets.

- I can stand in the lava at the top of a volcano and not take any extra damage, even in "Survival Mode". I was hoping for instant death, but nope. Easy game is easy! :)

They really need to add alternate colour themes for the UI. I am absolutely serious when say that the new colour theme is depressing and makes me not feel like playing the game. I just don't want to stare at that, especially while wading through the tedium of inventory management and crafting (which is even more tedious in Survival Mode).
O_o The 3.01 Offline Backup Installers are already up on GOG
That was pretty damned quick :)
I got the 3.01 update and now when I mine for ore, I don't get anything. The resource disappears, but nothing shows up in inventory. Also, the fauna spawns were ok at first, but now...very very few animals spawn, especially in the oceans. I will say the new flora is pretty interesting. I've seen some weirdly shaped plants and like the bio-luminescence. I even saw a sand worm once, but couldn't scan it.

Pretty nice update, just hope they work out the bugs soon. Especially the animal spawn, that hasn't been right for a while and definitely not getting any ore when mining.
next patch is already being tested https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/2850173019331071767/

If you are not using mods .. Have you reported your bugs to the zendesk https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
