You do not need to start a new save. Here is a screenshot what the game shows when starting an old save in creative mode.

You are HIGHLY adviced to start a fresh game, go read in Steam about all problems with old stuff not working etc. Backup your saves and see if they work in the next patch, and start a new game in the meantime.

The entire universe was scrubbed and all planets are being re generated with the new content... bases are in space all generateable objects have been changed somewhat and most of your inhabitants are different now.

i super highly recommend a new game... also darksouls style MP is coming... The current issue with MP on GOG is being worked on and they are confident it will be fixed ^_^

Thanks for all of the info, I had a feeling that may be the case. I think i'll backup my old save and start a new game and see how the game goes.
